5.56 Cal.

Post by mroberts1999 »

Just looking at a few empty rifle shell casings from my 5.56 cal rifle and they seem to match up with a few calibre's of my 1/16 . I could put the spent round around my tank or deactivate a few rounds and put the bullet back . Real brass too.

Hi mroberts1999 ,
5.56 if that is the calibre in mm then according to my calculator....the match in 1/16th scale is 88.96mm....so the only other things to ask are... please can you post some photos of a round with and without the bullet against a ruler to show the dimensions and then if they are about the right length then, how much money do you want for a 'Ten-Pack' ??...... :D

Hi Pete,
Thanks for the advice there. I was going to make sure that the bullets and the shell cases were separated for their trip through the postal system. This way there will not be an issue..possibly even separate parcels. I can get 'Live' blank firing 22 calibre rounds shipped from England to France and you are talking to a man who ( After checking in Blighty first with Virgin airlines) successfully got 0.45 calbre spent rounds...but with the bullets reattached >AND< 6 PRACTICE but real Hand Grenades onto an airliner from the good Ole' US of A... The grenades are basically a complete real grenade but just lack the primer and the explosive!!!!!
I went up to the check in desk and calmly said to the lady words to the effect .........Hello,I am going to show you an item that I have checked is ok to bring on the plane in England. Please do not worry and I will show you it end on, so that you can see it is hollow and perfectly safe ....I then produced the metal grenade body...and showed it end on ( still inside a large plastic bag to hide it..you will see why )...she was Ok with that so I then produced the screw-in top, with the pull-out pin mechanism and the fly-off handle....and she was ok with that.....BUT....when she rang the boss she told him that ' I had got some hand-grenades that I wanted to take on board the plane but that they were perfectly safe as I had .....Wait For It..........................TAKEN OUT THE PIN !!! !!!' ........
This was JUST post 911 with armed soldiers all over the airport...... :O ....needless to say I corrected her rather quickly.....One bloke tried to argue, that I could NOT transport them but I argued back and I have them here today......They are perfectly safe and as I pointed out ,they were basically just hollow metal paper-weights !!!
I had a friend , a good friend who was an Armed Response Officer (a firearms officer) who was leaving the section, and I wanted to make him the perfect leaving present so this may have made me argue a bit more forcefully.
Once back in the UK I bought a square of a dark hard wood cut a 45 degree slant on the front and mounted the ' pine-apple grenade' to the centre of it and then attached a small circular disc of metal to the pin of the grenade. The disc had the number '1' deeply engraved on each side and then shaded in black to make it really show up. The plaque on the front simply read,
' Complaints Department...Please take a Number'. .....Needless to say he loved it :D
.
ANYWAY I thought that Everyone knew that the brown paint on the handle means that it is a 'Practice Grenade'.......so what was all the fuss about ??....oh I see now, looking at the photos, the round grenade does not have the brown paint.......hhmmm...shall I pull out the pin and see what happens .....How about a vote on it ??

Hi Pete,
The rules on 'Spent Ammo' are not a problem, just look at Ebay, and THEY are really rather stupid on what they ban ! , just do a search on 'Shell Cases' and then narrow it down from 26,000 to the real brass cases... no problem at all
...The crazy thing ,is about the actual parts of a real gun !!.... ( Wihout a licence, of course ) Possession of ANY part of a Section 1 firearm is an offence...right down to say the actual trigger itself.....so having literally JUST the TRIGGER is an offence....Britain is crazy....
In the sports shops here in France, where you go to buy your tennis balls or your trainers they ALL sell ammunition for rifles and shotguns. All you have to show is your permit. The ammo cabinets have glass doors and are located at almost the furthest point AWAY from the tills, and it gets better.....the two glass doors slide over one another and are locked shut with the same kind of rather pathetic 'Lock' that is used on a 'reptile tank' in your average pet shop !!! Security ....What is that then ??? ...
......some of the Wild-boar ammo is amazing...its one solid round and also a kind of 'Fin-Stabilized discarding sabot' that is designed to be fired from a shot gun...It must have Awesome 'Stopping Power' to kill one of these monsters..... I want to try and post a picture of a wild boar that was 'found' in the area ( the picture is not a 'Blood 'N' Guts one' ) ....does anyone know if it is possible to extract a single photo from a Microsoft PowerPoint slide show ??
Alb.
P.S. Unfortunately I think that a 12 Bore shot gun round is too large a calibre to be used in my Tigers.....But the 'SturmTiger' might be worth a try....now then , 'How do I cancel out the recoil'.... to stop the tank from ending up about a mile backwards once I fire it..... 8O ....Oh and how many tubes of super-glue will it take to assemble the 'Exciting new kit' of a SturmTiger ?..... :haha:

Hi there the shells would be deactivated before they were shipped. The only thing in the package would be the spent shell casings ,and shells. Nothing explosive. I would soak the empty cartridge in water before sending to eliminate any possibility of leftover residue.

Hi mroberts1999 ,
That sounds great and I cannot see that they will cause any problems :D ....they are small brass tubes with one end sealed and pointed bits of lead / copper. Please could I ask you to take a photo of one next to a ruler or just measure the case, the bullet and then the overall length once they are rejoined....
If they are a good scale then please tell me a cost for ten and I can get the money off to you, so that at the very least I cover the postal charges, and your gas money.
