Tamiya Pershing assembly, help needed!

Post by panzershrek »

Hey everyone, Ive started assembling my Tamiya Pershy with my dad now hes home, I was wondering, when assembling the hull and upper hull, is it better to attach details such as towing eyes, lift eyes, stowage boxes etc before assembly so they are all painted together? I imagine this would mean less hastle, and no chance of glue spoiling the paint?

Cheers,

Alex

I find its best to assemble first then prime and paint, the glue can stain the paint otherwise
Just my experience painting HL's tho, I've never tried a Tam with extra bits.

i build my tanks in a similar way to septon, its what i feel comfortable with, i guess thats the key, try several different ways, then stick with whats best for you

I built My Jagdpanther in sequence according to the instruction manual, except the wheels because I was waiting for the ball race upgrade they and the tracks went on to the chassis last. I wish that I had left off the small details such as the tools and jack block until after I had painted it

with my jagdpanther, i found the hard way that it would be best to prime all of the metal parts before assembly, as if you do it this way you wont have to dis-assemble it all like i did. personally i found this out the hard way lol. ;D

with the extra parts as in stowage, i left them on when the tank was airbrushed, (by fleshy :D ) and them am still (haven't done it yet) going to paint the stowage bits after.

cheers,

Cheers guys! Ill try painting it all at once, after priming, and paint the tricky stuff- eg suspension components, on the sprues, and paint all metal seperately.

:)

I'm no expert, but I find that it works best for me to paint all the parts separate, then do some detailing to the small parts (mud on the shovel, etc)then carfully glue them on. If glue shows, I touch up with paint. Then when it is all assembled except tracks ( I do the tracks separate) I do the shadowing, dust, mud and grime. It seemed to work well on my Pershing.

BTW, I find that the fine grain of popsicle sticks work well to build ammo or K ration crates and such. No painting required (although I do shoot them with a dullcoat), but be sure to put them on before weathering.

then paint tools bits +bobs after.
