Hi Ian,

I didn't know you could convert, yet retain the BB element. But a bummer about the Torro only working with other Torro. Time for another rethink.

You see that skin coloured disc under the reciever. You put that in the hatch where the BB load remove the red BB LED (keep it wired just leave in turret) put IR LED in it's place. Then feed the wiring from turret to the rx18 and plug in.

Hi Paul, Ive two Tigers 1 WSN and 1 Torro they are both identical and look similar to the empty tiger that you showed but with a different paint scheme they arnt compatible with Tamiya my last tiger i got off ebay for 45 pounds thats a hell of a lot cheaper than a Tamiya now ive done the cosmetics mostly ( ill add a pic) and the intention is to put in an slu (an alternate battle and controls system) which are currently 160 as things wear and break ill upgrade but as Ian says they handle rough terrain better then many other tanks. I to am a newbie when it comes to battling but ive been told lighter is better many seem to have trouble with metal tracks which look great and hang properly but ive been told have a problem on rough terrain ( im sure someone will correct that statement) as for the Torro the wheel arrangement it correct for early mid production Tigers and the upper works are as good as the Tamiya everything is pretty accurate and with a little work you can get a great model. Its far superior to Heng Long and gives a great place to start from

Thank you for the info, Ian. Much appreciated and doesn't sound complicated. However, didn't you say that the HL IR are not widely used in the meet-ups ? Will a Tamiya work in the Torro ?

Thank you for the info. Much appreciated. I am taking all of this in, even with my goldfish brain.

The reasons why I wanted to go the metal route, were because they are supposedly stronger and longer lasting. With 3 maine coons in the house - all larger than any 1/16th tank, I didn't want them broken by them. And the garden is very rugged in places.

Thank you for sharing the photos with us. Nice tank, and good paint job. I can't wait to get one as it will be a great way of escaping the real world.

The Tamiya IR system is usually the standard all clubs (World wide) set as the Standard and the Torro doesn’t meet this standard or work with the Tamiya system. But you local meet is the Hyde one and we’re not fussed what system you have we just want people to have fun. We have between us 5 Torro (1 x t34, 2 x Tiger, 2 x half track), various HL but not all IR ready. Plus the Tamiya tanks. Then Pete has some tanks equipped with the SLU electronics. So what ever you or who ever comes brings there is always someone to play against.

Main thing is IR is only any good if you have someone to battle against if you don’t intend to come to meets and only want to play in garden with family then get what you want as long as all the tanks work together.

Hi Ian,
I may go for the BB with the conversion that you sent. The only family I have left are the wife and my mother. None of which are into tanks. The only people I meet are the wife's friends - all female... or the people who work at the supermarkets, and 99% of them are women. All my old mates are either down south or in the USA. It will be nice to have some men round, and not in a George Michael kind of way.

It's bloody annoying that there are so many systems out there, and a number of them do not talk to each other.

Either way, I have to get one soon, even if it is to scare away the ruddy pidgeons that keep eating the grass seed.

With regards to the metal tracks over rough terrain, my Torro Tiger II, Taigen M41A3, Heng Long Panzer IV & Stug III all have metal tracks and work perfectly over pretty much anything the Torro Tiger II is especially good and is probably my best outdoor 1/16th runner at the moment

It never stays at one tank. I've five tanks now and that's since my first one ten months ago plus got a few more I want to get or scratch build.
