Purchased wrong gear set...
Purchased wrong gear set...
So, I received a set of 3:1 gears for my Heng Long Panther G for Christmas. I was working on getting them installed today, but no matter what I did I could not get the sprockets to fit. So, I checked the receipt, and it turns out the gears I got were for a Tiger tank, not my Panther. So, two questions:
1: Is there any way to take the longer pinions off my original gears and place them on the 3:1 set?
2: What Heng Long tanks are compatible with the Tiger gear set?

Yes there is, you have to heat them up then lift them off the motor with a flat head screwdriver1: Is there any way to take the longer pinions off my original gears and place them on the 3:1 set?
Not sure on this question, maybe somebody else will come along and help. I don't own a Panther only a Tiger so I can't comment.2: What Heng Long tanks are compatible with the Tiger gear set?

Re: Purchased wrong gear set...
Just looked up what a pinion is, and that's the wrong word. How about Drive Shaft? The long metal piece that connects the last gear with the drive sprocket. Is there any way to take the drive shaft off and put it on another gear set?
Re: Purchased wrong gear set...
I'm sure it would be the same deal, but because the metal is thicker you would need more heat to prize it of the spindle. I don't know if what your trying to achieve would work as everything is measured for each gear set. So if you take something off something else and put it on to another piece of kit there is no guarantee it will fit. IMO you would be better off buying a new set of gears for your tank and trying to sell the gears that don't fit.
Have a look on WelshDragon models or tankzone see if they sell your gearbox there.

There are basically 2 kinds of gearshaft , the short type , i.e. Tiger , and a long shaft kind . Are the gears made of grey metal ( zinc ) or brass ?
to the bouncy room ! Yay !
Re: Purchased wrong gear set...
If its brass, then they should be able to be heated the same way as pinions. Acquire some kind of heat device and heat them. May take a while, but they should be removable.

Mato brass gearbox shafts have gears and endfloat collars held with small screws , undoing them will allow the shafts to be pulled out .

Does anyone know what tanks are compatible with the tiger's gear set?
