Heng Long v Taigen v Torro
Hi All.
I now know that the Taigen tanks are H/L "with balls" but what about Torro ?
I thought they were another company until this morning when I saw a box with "Heng Long - Torro Edition"
So which is better, Torro or Taigen ? and what upgrades do Torro have over Heng Long and Taigen ?
Thank you
Paul

I'm not sure about the Torro, but I have the Taigen Advanced metal Tiger 1. You can see photos on the show off your tank section. They have metal lower hulls, suspensions, metal tracks, idler and sprockets, metal front light and machine gun, metal gears, smoke and sound. Very sturdy tank. You can get one off Ebay for $279 shipped free from California. Seller is Mideatoys. This is, I think, their best tank as far as optional equipment goes. I love mine.

Not certain what you've seen. As far as I know Torro is a totally different company what use to be WSM. I've a WSM T34 tank and none of the parts are the same as the heng long.
Can you post a link so we can look.

Hi Jack,
Being in the UK, that would be far too costly.
Hi Ian,
I cannot find the exact pic I saw previously as i've already cleaned out my history, but I have found this pic that says Torro Edition...
http://www.listingfactoryhost.com/users ... _thumb.jpg
Welshdragon have two Torro builds. Here is one of them...
http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/torr ... 1676-p.asp
But says "This radio control version has an infrared battle unit (not compatible with Heng Long)"
First I thought Torro was a company in its own right. Then I thought it may be some beefed-up version of a Heng Long. Now I am confused.

the details are great..it has weld lines, the turret is correct, the wheel have rubber on them....it is a great example of a mid production tiger 1 imo

Hi there
I have a Torro King Tiger "Professional Metal Edition" with IR battle unit (which as far as I can tell is Heng Long compatible).
Really cannot rate the tank highly enough
as it is 90 percent metal (see my previous posts for the full specs
)
Is the pride of my 1/16th collection

Re: Heng Long v Taigen v Torro
The word "Torro" is the confusing part. I have seen it as a Brand Name (Welsh Dragons), I've seen it as a sub-name (Heng Long - Torro Edition) and inside a word (Matorro - sometimes in conjunction with HL, sometimes not).
The Torro ones on Welsh Dragon do look good, but not much in the way of info. I just don't know if they are beefed up H/L versions like Taigen models are.
If money wasn't a problem, then i'd buy all of them. Because money is tight and not having a tank, I need to get it right first time... and it's always harder when choosing online because images can be deceptive.

Hi Paul,
I’m confused by the HL Torro edition.
Torro appears to be the new name for WSM. And Matorro I think are Mato tanks and are more like Torro than HL.
The Torro tanks Welsh Dragon Model sell are all plastic like the standard HL ones but come IR ready and much better detailed and painted compared the HL.
You really should try coming to the next tank meet as there is Torro and HL tanks to look at, plus a whole range of others. Plus Aprils we’re having at a school which is also holding a model show for the weekend so even more to look at.

Re: Heng Long v Taigen v Torro
Hi Ian,
At least I wasn't the only one confused by it, esp as I am a n00b to all this.
I like the Taigen Advanced Metal RC Tank - Tiger Camo, but it is BB only. It will look odd if I convert it to IR because the replacement parts will not be in the same colour.
I do like the Torro T34 that Welsh Dragons have, but will need more info on that model before I commit. If it is compatable with the Tamiya Battle System, then it could be a yes.
You know I won't be able to travel, and the wife worries enough when I am going to places locally. (I have been known on a number of occasions to end up miles from where I was supposed to be because I forgot where I was going, and that's just locally.)

Re: Heng Long v Taigen v Torro
Paul,
You can add IR to the Taigen or HL and retain the BB element. Most people convert to recoil which will need a metal barrel and like you say need painting etc . But it will work with the BB gun as well.
Any question you have on the T34 just ask I've got one. Most people say the electronics are rubbish and convert to the HL ones, but having had mine since Christmas I'm getting use to it now.
As for the Torro IR working with Tamiya, nope only work with other Torro or as we found out yesterday strangley the SLU electronics
We also found out yesterday playing the tanks on the very over grown grass, the Torro tanks worked very well where a lot of other tanks struggled.
