Phew what a day!

Fitted my new motors today and what a mission it was I am fast learning that RC tank mods can be as time consuming as they are frustrating sometimes.
I went to fit my new motors straight outta the box and found out the damn motor shafts was far too long for my type of gear box. Now ordinarily I would have give up, but lucky for me I bought that lidl modelling upgrade set and had the cutting blades to slice through the spindle :D Right, So I had to do that twice making sure I don't cut too much off and more to the point I don't get sparks in my eyes and cut my fingers off  :wtf: :O

Now after I did that, I had to fit the pinions I bought with the motors, But they didn't seem to mess together properly and when powered the gear box made a horrible HORRIBLE noise. So I decided to use the heat technique to prize my old pinions off and put them on my new motors.
I heated up the pinion using a lighter and surpirse suprise... It come off :D So I did the same thing again and put the other pinion onto my other motor. Got a few burns and I cut my finger on a Stanley Blade but other then that JOB DONE

Glad you got it sorted mate.

Surprised the motor shaft was too long, as was ok in mine (both HL and Asiataim gearboxes) anyway job done.

Hi There are 3 types of speed 400s 4,5 volt 6 volt and 7,2 volt,I have tested all of them .the only one that works well is the 7,2 volt,it is slightly faster and has more torque than the Heng Long motor. If you use the 6 volt motor you will blow the boards I have bunt out 2 boards RX14 and a RX18 both had fans on they still burnt out.The Rx 18 ran for about 10 hours before it packed in ,didnt see much improvment in performance slight increase in speed ,but no improvment on grass,it did eat the batteries reducing the run time by a large amount.
So if you are going to fit them make sure they are the 7,2 volt these run O.K. with the RX18 havnt had a problem make the tank run better on grass ,run time is about the same as the Heng Long motors.

I also have the Gruapner Speed 400 7.2 volt motors, 2 years running no problems. They are in my Tiger which is 20lbs of Heavy tank with the Asiatam lower hull, and Asiatam Gearboxes running an 11tooth pinions. My Tank has extra weight added on purpose and metal tracks.

I have to agree with Pete the 7.2 volt work,it is my oldest and best running tank. I will add my board is mounted on stand-off nuts 15mm high and is double fan cooled. I would suggest that some fan cooling is always a good idea.

I disagree about the 6v blowing boards unless the spec of the 6v has changed. I've run 6v version for many hours in a heavy metal tiger (4:1 mato gearbox) and found they was great only problem didn't have enough low end power on the grass. So now changed to Jamara 480 motors, plenty of low end power but no way near as fast even though the motors are suppose to have same-ish rpm.

I've yet to try the 7.2v version yet.

I wasn't aware of the 4.5 volt model, but I knew about the 6 volt one. I made sure that I got the 7.2 motors, as I thought..If I have 7.2volts...use 7.2 volt motors :D Why would anyone want to use lower voltage rated motors? I guess its kind of like CPU overclocking I suppose

Anyway...MASS improvements in the way my tank moves, I recently upgraded the springs to the uprated versions which seems to of made a hell of a difference. you can even tell just by feeling the springs, the new ones are much better  I also did a mod where I could power my laser off a 4.5 volt tap on the rx18 so I didn't have to rely of crappy button batteries to power it.

I even had enough enthusiasm left to make a new smoker out of a smaller project box that I bought. I have done so many of these now, I can make one in less then an hour :P Unfortunately Its still not the way I want it

If you check the data for the 6v motor it gives says it voltage range of 2.4vto 7.2v and when I checked voltage from the ESC on a full charged battery (8.4v) it was never over 7v. Plus I wanted the higher RPM as was originally going to put in a DIY 3:1 gearbox which was very slow.

But I ended putting up in another tank and gearbox anyway and only complaint I had was low end power but to be honest it was still miles better than the stock HL motors.
