Tread loose or something?

Post by TankOCD »

Hey guys,
I took my HL KV1 out yesterday, and I noticed that the track occasionally would not turn on one side. I looked down and it seemed like the "drive sprocket" was spinning and not catching on the tread. Is this just a case of a loose tread? If so, how do I fix it? I didn't see any tensioner on the tank itself. Thanks guys!

Hi TankOCD,

The tensioner is at the front with idle wheel problem is it is fixed and not adjustable.

I found my KV1 did the same, but if you reversed it would slip back onto the drive wheel teeth. If the problem is really bad I suppose you could tighten the track by removing a track link, but need to do both sides otherwise the tank will no longer go straight.

Also found plastic tracks tended to slip more than metal, suppose the extra weight of the metal helped hold in place.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'll try removing a link. Do they make a functional tensioner?

As far as I know there is only these
http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/tank ... -861-p.asp

But you'll need to change the idle wheel as the HL ones won't fit the shaft.

What I did was get this
http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/asia ... -976-p.asp
Which has the adjustable tensioner and ball bearing wheels etc. Problem is the the HL metal tracks dont fit the drive sprocket that well. So i've order some plastic tracks but not arrived yet so don't know if the plastic is any better.

Other option is to make your own tensioner which I have seen one member do.
