HL King Tiger Road Wheel Question

Post by PainlessWolf »

Good afternoon,
I have one of the Heng Long Porsche turreted King Tigers. The vehicle came from the retailer with metal tracks, sprockets and idlers. I am in the process of adding a track tensioner idler shaft and as things go, one upgrade leads to another. I have added the Asiatam metal suspension arms and have run onto an issue re using the Heng Long plastic road wheels that came on the tank. The front road wheel now binds in the drive sprocket when raised by rolling over anything. Do you think that this issue may be due to the configuration of the Heng Long metal sprocket that came with the vehicle? The plastic suspension arms that came with the tank are noticeably shorter than the Asiatam metal suspension arms I replaced them with. The Asiatam arms seem to be more in scale with the vehicle. I had read an online message I cannot now find that noted that the Asiatam wheels were correctly scaled "unlike the Heng Long plastic ones supplied with the tank that are too large" Any thoughts or assistance from you all would be greatly appreciated. I am on the edge of buying a set of the Asiatam metal Road Wheels (which unfortunately come with _another set_ of the suspension arms) to correct this issue but only if that is the solution. Thanks in advance. B|

Hi I have had the same problem ,i you check the sprocket you will find bolt heads on the inside ,these hit the front left wheel and twist it cause it to jam(I have plastic suspension arms )you can remove the bolt heads as no-one can see them also trimming the edge of the front wheel maay help with clearance.it may help,I am waiting for Heng Long metal arms made for the King Tiger Forgebear has them on order (should be around £20)he also has on order metal wheels for the King Tiger (I think he said they will be £50 )have to wait till they arrive.

Hi Painless Wolf, you could try spacing your gearbox up to compensate for it. Have a look here at this posting on the hobby havoc forum he had the same problem.

Good Evening,
Thanks for the quick replies and excellent tips. Close examination of the sprocket supplied with the vehicle shows a deeper indent in the reinforcing ribs than the ones the fellow with the Jadgtiger was working with. The Asiatam arms give plenty of horizontal clearance so the bolt heads aren't catching, Pete but the vertical clearance is lacking (tho' strangely enough, only on the left side) I'll remove the sprockets again and see if shimming up and forward is possible with these metal gearboxes. Thank you again, gentlemen. B|

Good Morning.
Well, I _thought_ I had had a flash of genius and went to see if simply replacing the left front metal suspension arm with an single stiffened plastic suspension arm off the original set would resolve the issue. Of course not as that would place the leading road wheel too close to the one following in line... And these darn metal suspension arms were advertised as being for the new HL King Tiger and they _do_ fit beautifully and _will_ work wonderfully if I can just get this one little bug squashed... Does anyone out there have the metal Asiatam roadwheels for the King Tiger and can tell me what the diameter of the road wheels are so I can measure that against the plastic HL road wheels I have now? Thanks in advance.

UPDATE!
Good Morning all.
I finally got an answer to my road wheel diameter question from the helpful guy down in OZ ( http://www.awesomehobbies.com.au ) The Asiatam roadwheel for the KT is 50mm. After measurement, I sadly report that the HL plastic road wheel is also 50mm in diameter. So, no help there. Sprocket will still bind with the left front road wheel. I will either have to manufacture a metal plate and move the gear box up and forward or wait for the HL manufactured metal suspension arms and road wheels to be released. So a cautionary note, even tho' the seller says their metal suspension arms are for the Heng Long King Tiger, they are actually for the Matorro King Tiger and will fit but are 3mm longer than needed.
