Yeah looking forward to the next meet to try these. Be interesting to see if the shooting range increases, as I remember when me and Gary was battling (both HL tanks) for some reason I couldn’t hit Gary when at opposite sides of the room but he could get me. >:<

On the hl tanks, there is no restriction on the fan pattern of the IR light. In our club, we require the light to be inserted in a 9mm deep tube to cut down on this pattern of the light. ...this might be a issue

The way I understand it, this might be a couple things.....if I am wrong, plaese let me know...

The Tamiys system doesn't just turn on the IR light when you shoot....it flashes it really fast....the apple looks for these flashes at this speed....The hl system uses another rate of flashing. This is the main reason these systems do not work togather( or so I have been told). Another issue is the hl apple( the ir senser that plugs into the turret) has crome fins where the tamiya apple has black fins. The fins are there to limit sunlight adn "close shots" from setting off the sensor. Crome plating them like the hl ones would make them more prone to reading "close hits" and false hits from the sun.

Again guys, this is just how I understand it so I could be wrong....

this card changes the "flash" pattern of the hl IR light to the tamiya standard and reads the tamiya flash.....as I understand it.

Hi Mustclime,

That sounds about right about the flashing. Heres a video of one of my tanks, where you can see the IR LED flashing away after the main gun flash.

The IR reciever aren't chrome but painted plastic but suppose will have same effect. So maybe I paint them matt black like the tamiya ones.

Ian.

Yea, there has to be a flashing or the IR in the sunlight would set off the sensor. The fins on the hl "apple" should really be bigger and black.
