Help: to take the KV1 top hull off

Post by TankLover »

The turret of my KV1 is not moving smoothly anymore. Every time I try to
move it to right or left direction, it will move a little then stop and I hear a click click sound.
I want to take it apart to check inside. I got both tracks off and also 4 small screws on the back side
but still can't take it apart. I check and check but could not find any more screws that are still holding it.
Do you guys have any tips & tricks ?

thanks a lot,
Cn

Hi Tanklover,

Presume your talking about the HL KV1?

From memory there is 8 screws to undo from underneath. There quite well recessed into the hull so you only see the hole. If you say found the rear ones just look for same at front and middle.

Hope that helps.

Hiya CN , Tank Bear is correct , the HL KV1 hull is held by 6 deeply set cross head screws underneath , with 2 ' hidden ' screws at the rear , near the top front of the sprockets .
The clicking sound could be the nylon gear slip-clutch in the turret gearbox being worn .
to the bouncy room ! Yay !

Thank you very much TankBear & blimp.

Yes I managed to take the top hull off after removing 6 screws underneath.
I put some oil in the nylon turret gearbox and it seemed to work fine; But after put everything back I still have the same issue with clicking sound and the turret only moving intermittent.
Is there anything I can do to fix it or it's time to replace the turret gearbox ( only have the tank for two weeks) ? Where could I order one (with least shipping cost since I'm in Canada) ?

Thanks again.

Hi Tanklover.

The gearboxes have a basic clutch in them bit like a disc with arms within inside of a cog. Idea is normal operation there is enough friction between the arms and cog walls to turn the cog. When the gearboxes get to the limit the friction is too much and the arms slip on the inside of the cog (clicking sound).

So either a wire is getting caught in the turret ring causing too much friction or maybe one of the clutch arms is broke or missing.

Try taking the gearbox to bits and having a look.

If the clutch is damaged you could glue it but you run risk of burning motor out if not careful. Or if you need to replace all the HL tanks use same turret motor so should be easy to get a replacement online.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Tankbear. I checked and think the clutch is damaged. It will have to be replaced.
I will try matomart to see if they have it in stock.
Best regards,
Cn

If it's only 2 weeks old I'd try to get a new one under warranty . BTW I had intermittant traversing problems with mine lately , turned out to be a dodgy Tx
* If you have difficulty locating a gearbox , I have a spare you can have .

I've painted the tank so I don't know if the warranty is still valid ?
I've found that if I don't move the turret continuously by holding down on the control, it seems to work fine.

Thank you very much for your offer blimp. I'll contact you if I do need it. Really appreciate that.
