Fehrmann Tiger

Post by tankmad »

I have decided to redo my Tamiya Tiger 1 as a Fehrmann Tiger this tanks was used in the last month of the war using parts from different tanks in a last stance of Germany before defeat. This tank appears to have a early turret mid hull and late wheels with zimmerit that is falling off and quite bare in places. I have fitted the wheels and started the zim using milliput.

Done a bit more put all the wheels on and decided to put the original idler back on instead of the late smaller idler because as you can see in the real picture of the tank the idler looks to be a simmiler size as the wheels and not the late smaller type. I also put late close pinned metal tracks on because in some pics of these tanks it looks the later type of tracks.

Done some more I put 3 to 1 reducers in the gearboxes to reduce the speed of the tank to make it look more to scale the machine gun sits to the side a bit to make room for them. I also put track hangers on the front plate as this tank had track on the front. I also put the on off switch in the speaker box so all you have to do is lift the engine hatch to put in on or off.

This will be interesting Stevie, How well did the wheels work out? Are they solid with little wobble? The Tamiya Wheels always seems to need work, bearings replaced, some extra washers,I've had a time with my Henschel KT getting the wheels right.

These look great!

Hi Blake the wheels use the same shafts and bearings as the original wheels so they are much the same I used Septon's Tiger 1 tank a few years ago and they had them on and they worked a treat.

Looks great so far! Where did you get the wheels from? I am gathering stuff for a late Tamiya Tiger 1 build.
