Another Newbie

Post by supersaint »

Hi I am another newbie, in fact so new I have not even got a tank yet, but hope to rectify that very shortly.
My plan is to get either a Hen Long Panzer 111 or 1V, I can't make my mind up which. Found this forum and some of the others really useful before I go jumping in. My intention is to look at it for awhile, and then slowly decide what mods to make etc.
I think the painting /weathering interests me the most, and the electrics scares me the most Lol, still if I get stuck I am sure I can get some help on here.

Welcome Supersaint.

Your wise reading up first. These HL tanks are basically toys so can take a bit of clumsy work, and if you do break things doesn't cost a bomb to repair. But like Gary says the hobby is addictive, doesn't take long to get hooked. ;)

If you ever got stuck you've got the great support of this forum. A million times better than technical helpline

Thanks I am based in the Midlands, not far from Stratford Upon Avon. I realise the Heng long are probably not the best
quality, but all I can afford. At least upgrading them can be done, as and when the funds allow, although I know in the long run I may end up spending just as much Lol. It seems like the Panzers are probably one of the better models?.

True, some of the upgrades will cost the same or more than a HL tank :O I bought a Tiger and probably spent another £250 - £300 in upgrades already. :{ But still a whole lot cheaper than the more expensive quality of a Tamiya tank which will cost £600 and doesn't come with batteries or radio equipment!

The main upgrade most people go for is a low ratio gearbox (£40-£50) which will give the tank more realistic speed and make it handle better specially on rough terrian.

But the best thing about the HL tanks is apart from 8 AA batteries for the controller your ready to straight out the box, cant go wrong with that.
