John,as always the Tiger looks great. I used a method on my exhaust shield you may not of considered. The heat effects the metal, and then the rust effect the finish. I used chalk pastels to coat the exhaust shields, over the base coat. Then sprayed Johnsons clear shine over the shields, after that dried very well,I used Matte Varnish to dull the finish.

here is a photo, just for reference.
Exhaust Shield stage 1 and 2

This finish might not be right for you,but the point is with pastels and sealer like Johnsons the texture of he finish is similar to metal under the influence of heat and corrosion.

Hi Blake, I did similar on the actual exhausts for my rust effect mixing the pastel dusts in a number of rust colours with texture paste. Really effective. I will be doing more work on the shields as the kit shields do not have the strengthening bands either. I will certainly apply some texture then. Thanks for the photos. Painting is still at an early stage. I am going to wait till the evenings get a bit brighter so that I can see properly. Too dark here at this time of year.
Just a few mor turret parts to make then get it all fitted. Tiger will be bobbby Woll's 212.
I agree 100% with use of pastels in places like this to creat the effect of heat damage. I think these shields would have shown signs of wear and corrosion quite quickly.
I like the look of some models showing masssive amounts of rust and paint chips but based on most of the photos i have seen the vehicles were in very good condition. I am working on the basis that my tiger will be a vehicle no more than a couple of months old so almost factory finish with minor scuffs from crew members and road dust from travel.

Got a panzer IV recently but not starting till the Tiger is finished.

John, I have the Bobby Woll figure that I purchased some time ago,I send you a few pictures. Perhaps it would be more fitting in your tank as I have a Grossdeutschland Commander figure for my Tiger already.

I'll Take pHOTO and post it shortly. I'm having another night of no sleep and see your up and about. It is 2:38am here. So hang on and I'll take a picture. Blake

Here he is,and he seems fully equipped to command, fight and look for fuel. I have never removed him from the box but I'm sure he is perfect. Their is a nice bio included and one on the box cover as well.

Thanks Blake. I have bobby already. Got the one with the mg. Wittman is supposed to have used 212 at VB. It was yhought that he was driving 222 but it appears 212 so I can use either figures. I'm not crazy about either of the Dragon headsculpts. I was thinking about using actors head sculpts. I have enough peadot uniforms for about 10 crewmen.

Ok John, I have created my Grossdeutschland crew from other figures that were not specific examples of real people. The cuff titles and were purchased, along with some eastern front badges.

I'm going with the S13 same as my early version 1/16 Tiger if the wheels can be obtained through Big Tanks. Your tank has become very popular as it should be. Seems not long ago you were just getting organized and now it really had developed into a fine tank.

Thanks for sharing,I certainly have learned much.

Thanks Cliff, Have to do the upholstery now. Just wondering did you get instructions with your King Tiger. Drive system, wheels, suspension.
