Well I just got done building a hl king tiger and i am starting a e50 build based on another. All the gun workings are mounted on the roof of the turret. The turret traverse mounts to the floor of the turret. The production turrets had the 2 part gun( the guns wore out, so the later kt's had 2 part gun barrels so the germans did not have to replace the whole barrel). The p kts had both the 2 part barrels and the single part barrel...the hl kt has the single part barrel. If you want to convert a hl to a production turret, you will need a new barrel, the p turret also has a different mantle, that will have to go .... zimmerit is not that bad, a little modelers putty and peaces of a hacksaw blade worked for me....the tank is not masters class but I built it to rc battle and that means it will see tall grass, mud and snow. Only issue i have had with it is the rear idlers have brass sleeves and when you use the tank in 20f degree temps, the sleeves will bind up locking the wheels....a little lube fixed that. Aside from that, some 3:1 gears get the speed to scale and allow you to take damage with out becoming a pill box. I am running a dbu3 so I can fight with the tamiya guys...here are a couple pics from this last weekend...

cool cheers guys, still think i'm going for a generic tank. going to meld details from at least three different tanks i have seen. usually i will go all out to model just one vehicle but i have seen so many camo schemes and with just fifty tanks to choose from it sort of limits your choices. lol might not be accurate but it will be mine. just going to check out that million page article now.

Jeff, their is a post called two guy painting a Tank. And that is exactly what happened,so go for it,the accuracy can be debated for ever. But it comes down to just WHAT EVER THE CREW decided they needed, spray away and I'm sure it will be exactly what you have said, your tank.

Although purple with pink strips and large orange dots may be pushing it, so make sure to dullcoat everything :haha:

I must admit that although i preferred the Henschel production turret on the King Tiger I have recently acquired the upper body and turret from a Tamiya Porsche (built by Krupps) King Tiger, it is really growing on me and as my main interest is the western theatre of operations from 1943 it is an interesting addition to my collection.

Krupp built both versions of the Turret, The SHOT TRAP problem was thought to be avoided by the addition of a armored ring between the turret and Hull structure.

The debate on the differences was lively when the Waltersons/Heng Long version was produced, the barrel debate also was lively and resulted in information being posted that the Longer one piece barrels were replaced after the lining wore to the Two piece barrels.

Their is a Photo of a Porsche Turret version on the road in France with the two piece barrel. I will attempt to post the photos, the earlier photo of the two Tamiya's demonstrate the barrel differences very well as to length and the construction types.
