HL Panther - BB Gun no longer firing pellets (help!)

Post by rjsdavis »

Hi to all

I've been trying to find online someone with the same trouble as my son has just started to experience in the last couple of days - up until a couple of days ago, it was firing just fine.

I've emptied all of the pellets out, and dug around the turret with a paperclip in case there was a stray ball blocking the feeder mechanism, as well as checking that the gun barrell itself is also clear, and all appears to be fine. It would also appear that airsoft mechanism itself is still working as far as I can tell - but have taken a short video to help determine whether this is the case or not.

Any ideas? I'm trying avoid pulling the whole thing apart if poss, so was hoping that there might be a few pointers, or something that often happens in these instances. My gut still tells me that the feeder is blocked with a pellet, but can't see in very far through the pellet feeder hatch to actually see if this is the case - any help is MASSIVELY appreciated, especially by my son who's getting very frustrated that his brother's Tiger 1 is working fine, and he can't battle with him anymore!

Thanks in advance for any replies....

I have a HL Tiger and anytime I had a "misfire" it would clear itself after a few more cycles...usually with a hail of bb's coming out of the barrel.

It sounds like everything is working fine.

Maybe take a length of coat hanger and cut off a length and gently push it down the gun to dislodge whatever is down there?

How about a bright light and a paperclip and look into the hopper?

I'm sure a few more seasoned users will be able to help you out better than I did.

Hi there - thanks for the reply...

We've cycled it probably 20 or 30 times now, and as yet, no joy. I will try the coat hanger down the barrel job - just in case, but it does appear to be clear as I can see right down the barrel with a torch light and see a metal cup shape at the bottom of the barrel.

I've also had a good dig around the hopper / feeder mechanism as I already posted originally. It's slightly tricky as I don't know where the balls should fall beyond where I can immediately see inside the turret where the pellets are fed into! You can see inside very far at all in the Panther turret.

If I was you I would take it apart it's not as hard as you mite think!! Only a few screws under the tracks. And then three screws to take the turret off then the turret screws and your there! It's a bit diddly but you can unscrew the hull without taking the tracks off! I'd give it a try if your still having no luck!

,The hatch has a single FEED HOLE,this leads to a pellet bin which funnels the pellets into the breach. It is possible this is where the actual blockage is,the hanger down the barrel might make things worse. Try turning the tank upside down,a sharp tap on the side may release the jam. Their is a gap between the Turret roof and this guide bin that might be loose enough to allow the jam.

The gun is a mechanical spring gun,the gearbox slides back a bolt and compresses a spring behind this bolt,at the full compression position the guide rail is notched releasing the bolt to slide forward allowing the bolt to strike the pellet expelling it.

The guns barrel is metal, and has some vent hole to allow the trapped air to escape, and helping the pellet to gain speed. If it were a barrel Jam and the magazine was full when the gun stopped working the gearbox would of jammed most likely,it will feed ammo until the pellets actually jam the breach slide.

If turning it upside down does not clear the jam in the bin and the gun sounds like the slide is cycling then it seems the bin is the issue, either jamming or it has come loose,do you here any loose pellets inside the tank if you shake it?

The next thing would be as Tank Man has posted disassembly. Perhaps this would be best. The tank you have is called a panther but is actually what we call a PanTiger,a Tiger lower hull, with a Panther upper, compare your tank to a Panther G and notice the wheel pattern,it is the same as a Tiger yet different from a Panther G. So the Tiger disassembly should be followed. Remove tracks and access the 6-screws under the tracks, this separates upper and lower hulls, three screws hold the ring gear in place and allow the turret to be removed,4 screw hold the turret sections together and hold the gun in place as well.

At this point you will see the bin and if the problem is their, remove the bin and clear any obstruction, you will also see the breach at this point and could cycle the gun and watch it move,if it does not then the gun has either stripped some gears,of the arm to the slide had broken.

Taking the gun apart can be a mess, you might consider replacement at this point? I'm not much use TONIGHT BUT COULD photo a disassembled turret tomorrow if that would help? My Tiger lower is Asiatam so I cannot photo an H/L lower for you, perhaps Tank Man could,or another member.

I got rid of my old hull for the Asiatam so I haven't got one to show you either. But I'm sure there's a member that has on here! If it comes down to it I have a spare bb unit you can have.but then you will have some soldering to do!

Thanks so much for the answers above - I'll give her a good whack later on this evening and let you know if this cures it - failing that, it looks like it's coming apart.

Thank you very much for the offer of the spare BB unit Tank Man - hopefully, won't need it tho!
