Hi There.
Can anyone please tell me where i can get the most powerfull batteries from for the heng long
tiger (full metal), tank as i see that the one supplied, does not last long.
Are "Core", batteries suitable, as i only seem to be able to get them with tammy connect
ions.
I have been a tankie, only one week ,so have a lot to learn.

Hi John,
If they use 7.2V racing packs like Tamiya tanks then try this link.
If you don't want the Tamiya plug, they do some (but not all) with deans connectors, or you can do what I do and take off the Tamiya connector and fit your own .

The best performance comes from a matched set.. out of the 2 listed i would go with the one sparks listed..unless you go down the road of a full match set and make the pack up yourself.

I really must seem a muppet, but i am somewhat in the dark here as yet.

A few things about batteries and running time which you need to know.

First is the heavier the tank the harder the motors work and hence drain battery quicker.

Secondly if your using the standard heng long charger (400mA output) you need a better charger the HL one is rubbish. It might not be fully charging the battery.

Thirdly NiCd & MiMH batteries need fully discharging before rechargingother wise you battery get what's known as a memory effect in which it remembers that point and treats it as empty state therefore further reducing useful capacity.

My advice is be carefull buying batteries off ebay if from HongKong it be about 2 weeks delivery and if above £18 might get caught with import duty & VAT. PLus another time I bought a pair of 3800mAh batteries from a UK company and I couldn't charge them anyway near capacity so I complained and got some more sent which was same so ended up with four 2000mAh after all that.

Regarding the plug just look for Tamiya type.

And don't be afraid to asking newbie questions, I only got into RC tanks five months ago and easier to ask a question than to buy the wrong item or break something.

I use Orion Rocket packs in my tanks, 4500Mah. I get about 1,5 hours of runtime with them, even with my 7 kilo King Tiger. Very good batteries although i have heard otherwise from a lot of people. I charge them at 5A every time using a Graupner Ultramat 15 charger. Have been using these battery's for about 4 years now, and they still go up to 4800Mah fully charged.

As for the connector, you can stick with the Tamiya plugs. With my cars i have changed them al to deans due to the tamiya plugs melting cause of the heat, but that will not happen with your tanks cause they will not even get warm (the plugs that is).

Also Tankbear is right about the stock wall charger HengLong delivers with their tanks. There is no way of knowing if they are fully charged or not. Ditch it, and buy a quality charger, it will pay off in the long run.

Hi Guys Thanks a bundle for all the info, i have allready ordered a smart charger, and have read a lot of comments on batts and running times,
I have also ditched my smoke unit, as there has been so much adverse comments on them.
I am slowly begining to think that i should mortgage my soul, and go tammy,
Its a fast learning curve but lots of fun!! And i thought that paragliding was complicated !!!!!!

7 kilo ! have you used real armour plate? On a more constructive note what kind/brand do people recommend? Also people slag off the standard HL charger, but really for me the only practical way of multiple charging of batteries for multiple tanks. So is there a way (via use of a device) to check the level of the charge? f
