King Tiger

Post by Carnage »

Here is my latest build. The Tamiya FO King Tiger. Still a bit of a work in progress, but arent they all :haha: Mods include Hentecc track tensioners, metal tracks, front axle support bearing (poms), and many other. Still working on the detailing, it has been weathered about a week ago.

Hi Carnage,
The King Tiger, definately looks really good better 'weathered'...and nice to see a ladder on the side as per the photograph of a king Tiger. !!! .......
One thing that has always puzzled me about the German Panzers is the 'Fire Extinguisher' being painted a BRIGHT RED......If I were a crewman..then I know where the extinguisher is ...its in the same place that it always is....so why paint it BRIGHT RED....surely the crews must have sprayed it a darker colour ??...in red it sticks out, and is an obvious 'Beacon' to aircraft and to enemy ground forces!...I have been meaning to ask this for ages......does anyone have a colour photo of a Panzer with a RED fire extinguisher...or a camo'd one ??? I will check my files and see if I can find anything....but to me red seems silly 8O

When i looked over the web about the extinguishers. I came acrossed some old photos and quite a long chat about them. They said , they only ever came in 2 colours sandy brown or dark grey. But with all the phots, well most in black and white. Its real hard to tell.

It's actually on the 'to-do' list, cause this is not the stock plastic one, but a metal one that came in that colour. My Tiger 1 also has its one camouflaged same as the tank.

So it will be fixed shortly, cause i kinda think of it the same way Dietrich does

Fire extinguishers only started to appear in red colour during the 1950s. Prior to that they were made of brass and sometime even polished! In wartime they were generally sprayed the same base colour as the vehicle they were on. As were all the tools, however if you don't paint them to look like tools it looks like you haven't bothered to detail them!

Not only the fact that they are red (which is a moot point seeing as if you can see the extinguisher you can see the tank regardless of cam), but leaving them on the back deck whilst driving around, the things get freaking hot.

Probably too hot to touch. I'm sure crews would have stowed it somewhere else or have an internal mount on the loader's side of the turret, like in later German tanks IE Leopard 1 series.
