Help sought regarding Xion Sd.Kfz 222

Post by nautyboy »

The missus recently bought me the Xion/AD SD.Kfz 222 kit - which I am overjoyed about.

Sadly, the kit does not come with a motor, and I am having the Devil's own time trying to get the right one.

I assume that from the body size that it is a 280 style, but the ones I already have do not fit well - then there is the question of the motor gear.

Therefore my questions to anyone who has built either the 222/223 are as follows:

1: what sort of motor did you use (brand, type, etc.)?
2: what size gear was needed on the motor (8-tooth, 12-tooth, etc.)?

Any assistance would be most gratefully accepted.

Frontline list the speed controller for your SdKFZ22 as a 280,so I'm sure these guys will give you the correct information. They are closed on Sun/Mon so it may be Tuesday befor they return an e-mail. Good luck and post so pictures when you able

Yes, we got the kit through David (who was a real gent), but even he did not know the specs on the motor (though he did say he had a mate who might know).

I am pretty sure a standard 280 or RE280 will fit (along with an 8tooth pin), but having almost ruined once axle already through not being able to read German (tried to put a 2.5mm screw into a 2mm hole and stripped the threads from the pot-metal castings :) ) I just wanted to be sure, before I tried to pop on in.

It will be showing up in the build section soon enough. ;)

Christian has been teaching me German through pm and e-mails for a while, also Dietrich wife speaks and reads German. Google translate does not do well with technical German descriptions,pm the page and I'll translate it for you no problem.

Christian is CHRIS3 and his site is displayed on the advert banner,I'm sure he would help as well.
