Tamiya Tiger 1

The gearbox's..
They have a plasic shroud around them, this shroud also holds the gear shafts in place.. so you don't want to break this, also there is way too much slop in the 2 boxs mountings.

Now there have been numerus ways of taking the mounting slop out, but what i found with mine was a clunking noise coming from the gearbox while turning. This was due to the plasic shroud ( the 2 halfs opening) allowing the gear shafts to travel upwardly.

So what i did was to place some plasic on top of the gear box so it came level with the shell, then a "l" shaped aluminum. 4 pins place into each of the gear boxs from the top,and the 2 outer edges bolted (under where the track travels). this has removed that clunck sound and the boxs are rock soild.

The other quick cheap fix i did was idler wheel , take it apart drop a 0.5mm bit of plasic in the shaft hole no more play.

Hi caddyshack,
Excellent tips on the gearbox and idlers.....BUT this is a Tamiya !!!....so why the problems ???
This is just a personal rant of mine and is not aimed at you, in anyway at all, so please do not be offended  ......,....it is just aimed at the 'Mythical status of tamiya'............these flaws are typical of tamiya , the kits are over-priced and UNDER engineered for outdoor use............ People compalin about Heng long gearboxes and idlers....and that you have to fix the design defects..looks like tamiya isn't much better.....except for the price tag !!!.... Asiatam hulls are the way to go...at the moment no-one else comes near to their quality and reliability.
