HL KV-1 pro version arrived

My HL KV-1 arrived today with metal gearbox, tracks and wheels.
Its nice and is a vast improvement over the plastic counter parts!

My only gripe is with every HL tank I've ever owned (I've owned 3) is that I always have to take the tank apart to get to the battery lead and adjust the knot in the lead so it is further down allowing for the wire to come out further into the battery compartment, so that the battery can fit in properly!

It's a small gripe, but something I would have thought Heng long would have picked up on.
I realise the knot has to be there to prevent the wires being pulled off the board, but theres plenty of room to tie the knot further down and still insure the wires wont be pulled off the board.

That said for £105 im pretty happy with it!

Top choice.

Out of my three tanks the KV-1 is my best. My gripe is because the gearbox is at the back so is the weight and therefore struggles with traction going up slopes even with a rubber mat

Got a 3:1 gearbox in mine and that makes it brilliant on the grass I play them on.

I'm fairly new to r/c tanks, but i've noticed that problem to!

If I cant get up a hill running forward I tackle it in reverse as the weight on the front and the fact it tips onto the front wheel drive(front wheel drive if your going in reverse) really makes a difference.

I've watched you tube videos of the hl tiger(or panther, not sure which) and I think thats front wheel drive as it manages hills much better.

I'm reasonably new too. got first one about 3 months back but totally hooked now.

Another weak point I've found on both the tiger and KV-1 is the idler wheel support it will start coming away from the hull and glue not strong enough.

On my tiger I put upgraded to metal wheels with 4mm bolt (HL ones are 5mm) and put long bolts (75mm) straight through. And that has held up. Need to do same on the KV-1 but going to drill HL wheel put small ball bearing in then long 4mm bolt and join the two bolts together in the hull so each side holds the other firm. Well that's the plan.

I'm looking at my kv-1 now & trying to figure out where the idler wheel comes away from!

Ah I think I can see where you mean.

Fixing a bolt all the way through seems like a fairly effective way to fix this if and when it happens.
A rubber tube/sheath over the bolt might be a good idea as well to stop the metal bolt rubbing and waring away the plastic(but that may cause friction)?

My mates coming up on wednesday to look at hl tanks on you tube so he can decide which one he's going to buy(he doesnt own a computer), than it'll be tanks battles

On the idlers wheel the bolt does turn the wheel just rotates around it. My Tiger is running metal idler on brass bolt and no friction issues. I think the bigger issue is when the track is rotated is pulls against the wheel and tries to rip away from the hull.

As for your mate talk him into getting a Tiger as the tracks come off them if getting carried away with turns on high resistance surface (grass) that way disabling it and make for an easy target.

My HL Bulldog has a similar track problem, even after I took one of the links out.

Not sure which one he's going to order.
I know he used to own a HL tiger about 6 years ago, but he said it had a different battery installed in it back than and just wasnt as good as whats on the market today.

Does anyone know whats a good hl tank out of the box(one with no idler wheels breaking away from the chassis problems, preferably)

Think there called Tamiya.

We love the problems really any excuse to dismantle something and put back together. Although I'm like Tim Allen in Home Improvements with some of my fixes.
