Hello from sweden!
Hello im frolic, a newbie to the rc-tank "universe". I dont really know what to buy and what to avoid so i figured this would be a exellent place to start asking around. Anyway i am a 15 year old dude who is nigh incompetent with electronics. I am hopefully going to buy myself a scale 1:16 or bigger tank, could anybody advice a brand?
Re: Hello from sweden!
Hey Frolic, you've come to the right place to start your RC Tank career! I'm not in the hobby myself but I'm sure somebody will chime in to help you out soon, see you around!

Hi Frolic,
Welcome to the forum
Although I don't own any, I'm a Tamiya fanatic
, The Heng Long tanks seem to be a good starting point for their low price and upgradability.

What's the difference between HL and Tamiya?
Re: Hello from sweden!
Hi,
For most people, the price.
The Heng Long tanks are ready to go as they say, and out of the box look a bit "toy like", but there are plenty of upgrade parts and with some weathering and painting you can make them look really good, have a browse on the forum. You can pick them up for less than £100.
I think most people end up upgrading the electronics too.
Tamiya's come in kit form and are better quality but the cheapest kit is around £500, then you have to buy the radio system, again plenty of upgrade metal parts, but you could end up shelling out around £1000
You can find them 2nd hand made up on eBay for around £300-£400

Re: Hello from sweden!
Hi Froilic welcome mate . I started with the Heng Long Tiger but now have Heng Long , Tamiya WSN and scratch builds . The Heng Long , Tamiya debate is a long one . To me the Heng Long Tiger was an excellent entry point to 1:16 RC tanks cheep and a reasonable tank . But once joing forums I discovered the errors on the tank and the upgrades available , with help on here you will make an excelent tank . The Heng Long Tiger is still a good tank . But I have to say on behalf of Tamiya that the Tamiya s are far better . But its like everything you get what you pay for. I will always buy Heng Long / WSN Mato and when I can afford it Tamiya . For upgrades etc I use Dave and Lewis . As buying Tanks the same realy , you can get good buys of eBay but make sure you know what your buying as you can get caught out . For example a vintage Tamiya is compleatly diferent to the newer full option versions , but realy only on the inside. Always ask a question on here you will get good and sound advice , as I did.

Hi Frolic,
Welcome to the Forum!
As far as choice of tank goes then to start with it has to be a Heng Long with the Smoke & Sound to give you the RX-18 receiver system. Do Not buy the Panther model that has the 'two piece' frontal armour ( Sometimes called the PAN-TIGER ) It is horrible and often comes with the earlier control boards that are not very good.
If you find that you enjoy the hobby then you can look at spending more money on Metal upgrades etc.etc. as time goes on.
Personally, and this is only my opinion, I do not like Tamiya. They are overpriced and are actually a kit that you have to assemble every single part on, where as the Heng Long can virtually be run straight out of the box, with a charged battery.
If you have any questions there is a 'search box' located in the top right hand corner of the main forum banner, or you can sipmly post a question and someone is bound to come along who can answer it for you.

Re: Hello from sweden!
Hi frolic,
This is a Pan-tiger, see the inwards bend in the frontal armour. This is what the frontal armour should look like.. You have to be a bit careful on Ebay as some Pan-Tigers are priced at £40 and some are still at £100

Re: Hello from sweden!
I have narrowed it down to two tanks, either the HL KV, or the HL Tiger1, im wondering which one that is the most historically correct, and witch one that you can upgrade the most.
Thanks for all your kind replys!
