?????????? - New boy, signing in

Post by nautyboy »

Greetings from the wild and woolly back end of the Twin-Starred Motherland.

I've been an RC buff for a few years now and a 1/35 scale modeller for even longer (there not being much else to do on the long winter nights that the missus will tolerate). I'd not thought about combining the two for years though; I'd always been daunted by the Tamiya tanks and not seen the Heng Long things till last year.

Mind you, that was before I visited a tank battle (hosted by the local 69th Panzer Division: The Namahage - bit corny, but that's the lads for you)

That awoke the old TTGer in me, combined it with the RCer, bolted it to the military modeller and sprayed it up in panzer grey.

Lo! I joined up with the group, as they needed German tank destroyers and found myself with my first Jagdpanther sitting on my desk.

????!

Hi nautyboy, :~
Welcome to the Forum  ....I have to ask, please and if you do not mind....Why do you call Japan the 'Twin starred motherland'..... (Wiki and) I always thought ....The characters that make up Japan's name mean "sun-origin", which is why Japan is sometimes referred to as the "Land of the Rising Sun" :D ?
There is a wealth of knowledge on the Forum so please feel free to ask any questions, or you can use the search box that is located in the top right hand corner of the main Forum Banner.
You sound like you are already a pretty experienced modeler.... So hopefully we can look forward to some photos...we like photos :D
I think that you are wise to start with Heng Long models. They are much more sensibly priced and the R/C already comes with it. The Tamiya models are very expensive AND they are kits that you still actually have to put together. The detail on them is better, but if you intend to run outside and to 'battle' then I think that you safer to stick with Heng Long, as you will be less financially upset if something goes a bit 'wrong', with a rock or a roll over !

Ah, yes. The Land of the Rising Sun indeed, but there are two stars on the Tamiya Corporate flag and our club is knee-deep in national modelling pride. :haha:

It's always good to have the right backup. This community came highly recommended, and I hope I can contribute some interesting stuff, both of my own and of the lads and lassies here. It certainly is a bit of a step up from 1/35 to 1/16, but I'm certainly up for a challenge.

And you are correct in your surmise that I did order a Heng Long along with the Tamiya. I reckon tootling about with that will allow me to cut my teeth before stepping up - even with discounts and the old-boy-network, the Tamiya beast was not so cheap that I can afford to make a muck of it.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm sure I'll have a grand time here.
