hi,
i am just working on a idea and would like to know the turret ring sizes for the tamiya tanks ,
it is the black ring used to drive the turret rotation .
i have the sizes for,
the King Tiger at 93.7 mm diameter .
the Panzer 4 at 112mm diameter ,
but if anyone could tell me the diameter of the other models ,like the Sherman . and the Tiger ,
i would be grateful

Re: tamiya turret rotation rings
Are you possibly considering the turret ring gear modification? Just curious.

hi saxon . it has sort of started from there , i have two of the 3 speed boxes and a pz4 ring , but it has given me a idea for something slightly different ,, dont want to say yet ,. but looking for a turret ring with a diameter of around 109 mm
Re: tamiya turret rotation rings
or the larger diameter of the ring needs to be that size , and a tamiya turret drive unit ,
Re: tamiya turret rotation rings
Hope it works out for you,I'll try to find a caliper and measure several I have for the Mod I described. Get back asap,Sax

Re: tamiya turret rotation rings
Measured the Tamiya King Tiger rings@ 107mm that is the largest I am aware of now that is the Panzer four ring in my Porsche by Bubbajoe who designed this modification. The standard King Tiger(in my HENSCHEL) is between 103-04 but flipped over and modified to work the same as the Porsche and Tiger. removable turret modification. Sorry for the late reply, and possibly tonight I CAN POST SOME SPECIFIC information with pictures about the Modification of the Turret ring system.

Re: tamiya turret rotation rings
thanks for that Saxon , its strange i have a king tiger with a ring of 97 mm,
maybe they varied them but the turret i have has a turret base ring of 114.5 mm outer and a inner of 109 .3
i need to extend this spigot to give a better stability , so i hoped to attach a tamiya , ring thus giving a better turn speed
finding it hard to find a tube of 114 , so will work with the nearest ,, all things are there to be overcome

Hi panzer 3,
At a guess you are trying to make the King Tiger have the correct variable speed of turret rotation.....
At top engine speed the time taken for a 360 degree rotation is very impressive, even by todays standards!
The turret could be rotated through 360 degrees in 60 seconds in low gear independent of engine rpm,
---------------------------------------------------------in 19 seconds in high gear at idle engine speed, -----------------------------------------------and within 10 seconds at the maximum allowable engine speed!
It really was and still is a very impressive tank, just a bit underpowered.

Re: tamiya turret rotation rings
hi
that is impressive to say the least ,i had heard they were slower , the muzzle break must have really been moving on the arc length .
i know when i was with the kingtiger in Belgium it was so very impressive just motionless
but i am working on a tiger tank
it is in early stages but i am today trying to fit a metal turret , i acquired ,from the tiger tank magazine , the parts were collected by a friend
and me being me decided to have a go at fitting the turret to a mato /asiatam body
and just to make life interesting i am fitting asiatam recoil into the turret too
but the turret came with no rotation so i have to fit a ring to the, and the deck from the magazine to the henglong deck
so i now need a rotation drive for the turret , which i think will be a tamiya rotation drive
heck if it was easy where would the fun be agghhhh
