Greetings

Post by rhc »

Good afternoon. I am a novice with RC. An old friend has given me an HL Snow Leopard which is missing (a) battery (b) charger (c) antenna (d) controller and manual. I think it might be the "smoker" as there is an on/off switch on its underside.

Am very keen to get the machine going so I will need to do a bit of shopping. Any guidance as to where to go and what (else) I might need would be gratefully received.

Hi rhc, :~
Welcome to the Forum. You will find plenty of people here who can help you with most problems as they have a wealth of knowledge and are happy to help. There is aalso a search facility in the main banner with a box in the top right hand corner.
If you know how to do it I would suggest that you post a photograph of the inside of your hull so that people can see exactly what boards etc you have inside your tank. On the hand held controller as you look at it, there are the two brass levers. In the bottom right hand corner, is there a small black plastic plug with a number on it or a small lever that can be positioned at { a, b or c } ?

Great thanks Dietrich. Will take a shot of the hull and see if I can work out how to upload. I am afraid that I do not have a controller.

Hi RHC , Hello and welcome
To check which transmitter you need , look under the tank . If you see a black switch marked A,B,C, it will be the basic one .
If it has an on/off , volume control and a numbered crystal socket ( could be missing) - it's the S+S version .
      p.s. If you want a charger + battery , i have 3 spares !

Thanks Blimp. It is the S+S one.

Just tried to upload a photo of the hull. File too big...

Very kind offer on the charger and battery. Might take you up on that.

So I need an S+S controller, battery and charger, antenna.

Thank you so much for helping.

        Hi rhc, :~
Sorry about the controller question you did say that you had not got one...I just read your message and thebn replied later...memory like a sieve.
You have an RX 14 receiver board which is the best of the slightly older ones second only to the RX-18 so that is a good start. I would suggest that you send a PM to a member called 'FORGEBEAR' ( Dave ) and ask him if he can supply you with a controller. In your photograph thre are two circuit boards 1 large and 1 small. The smaller one needs to be unscrewed and turned over to see if it has a 'Crystal' in it. The crystal is actually a thin oval shaped silver metal part and it should have a paper tag on it with a large number on it. If the crystal is missing then you will have a white oval shape on the circuit borad sith two small metal sided holes, this is where the crystal should fit.
If the crystal is missing you will need to buy a controller and the TWO crystals ,one for the transmitter and one for the receiver. Check first and then PM Forgebear
