Hi mate there's not to much to alter mainly improvements , depending on the version of the Stug III you want to make . If you have metal gears then you can add metal drive sprockets , idler wheels and return rollers . I converted my one to a late war Stug III Ausf.G but not the final version as my one has the waffle pattern zimmerit . I also added removable schurzen.

Hi Little dave,
If you do a LATE war version you can avoid the Zimmerit as it was discontinued from 9th September 1944 as it was wrongly thought that it could burn when hit by impact projectiles and so destroy the tanks.
SO instead of the usual Schurzen (side skirt armour) why not use the later 'Dragon Tooth' armour which is a Mesh instead of the usual plates. In my opinion it looks Really Good and I would add it to a STuG III if I had one LOL
Panzer_IV_004.jpg
I realise that this is a Panzer IV but the principle is the same and it was fitted 'Across the Board' on later tanks Etc. To save precious metal, and it would still defeat the dreaded 14.7mm soviet Anti-Tank Rifle and bazookas etc.

The scale size of the 'Holes' in the mesh is 20mm if that helps
OR
How about this version..a variant of the StuG III Ausf. F was designed with a 105 mm (4.1 in) howitzer instead of the 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/43 cannon. These new vehicles, designated StuH 42 (Sturmhaubitze 42, Sd.Kfz 142/2), were designed to provide infantry support with the increased number of StuG III Ausf. F/8 and Ausf. Gs being used in the anti-tank role. The StuH 42 mounted a variant of the 10.5 cm leFH 18 howitzer, modified to be electrically fired and fitted with a muzzle brake. Later models were built from StuG III Ausf. G chassis as well as StuG III Ausf. F and Ausf. F/8 chassis. The muzzle brake was often omitted due to the scarcity of resources later in the war. 1,211 StuH 42 were produced from October 1942 to 1945.

The larger 105mm gun makes the STug III Look a lot Meaner than the 75mm gun.

Also like Dietrich says if you do a late war one you can escape doing the zimmerit . Or go the other way and do an early version , there was after the market kits to turn the HL Stug III to the early versions . I based my one one a pict. of one in Normandy after the initial landing on the retreat through France . The Therma mesh schurzen looks impresive but Ive not seen a Stug III with them but that doesn't mean they didn't have them . I put solid schuzen on my one using the angled hanging rail with the triangle mounting pieces .Most of the Therma Mesh schurzen sections have a double hook on the top which hangs on a tubular rail , and the track guard mounted fixing points have two settings as they are up or fold down .This positions the schurzen further from the tank allowing you to add the winter wider tracks.

ps Dietrich thanks for posting the 20mm measurment mate  that will help me when I get back on my late Pz.IV , which is having these skirts . I was going to use the Poundland splater guards but will check the measurments now, thanks.

Hi mate the Marder has a 38t chassis , you can scratch this as Ive built a Hetzer 38t in 1:16 , the Wesp I think is a Panzer II chassis but I could be wrong on that .
