Hooben elephant get the asiatam treatment

Post by tomhugill »

Hey guys and gals, I thought I would share my Elephant build so far now im completely happy with it mechanically. In this project I was unhappy with the plastic hooben tracks which kept popping off when I performed turns on grass. Originally I purchaced a set of the asiatam metal Elephant tracks but found out that they didnt fit the hooben sprokets! These I ordered and fitted. I then found the gap in the hooben wheels was too small for the guide horns on the metal tracks. So I went the whole hog and bought a asiatam metal suspension and metal wheel set. I must say these are lovely and well worth it. All the wheels are on good bearings and theres no play in the units. Also that I could not easily convert the hooben output shafts (which at the time I had been using with converted tamiya gearboxes) so I installed a set of asiatam 3:1 boxes. Im using Tamiya electronics but have been unable to fit the tamiya flash unit in the barrel so far. Next on the list is adding metal tow cables , tools and Zimmerit.

Heres the pics:
