Another new chap to the forum!

Post by Athelstan »

Hey all,

I'm new to the forum and just wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself. My first encounter with RC was in the early 90s when my parents bought me a little Jeep Cherokee (given my diabolical memory I have no idea why I remember it so clearly ;D ) and over the years this developed in to a full-blown interest in 1/10th scale cars; culminating in the early 00s with a small collection of different vehicles, each tweaked and poked (and crashed) far too many times. There were no local clubs but I ran these models with a couple of friends and we always enjoyed ourselves.

A good eight years ago now we relocated to the Highlands and with no one to run the fun of driving a 30-40mph model sadly began to subside and eventually I began selling my models off. I haven't owned an RC model since but have always had a soft spot for them.

Military vehicles - especially from WW2 - have always been an interest for me and, well I might as well be honest; several weeks ago I took the plunge and downloaded the free-to-play game World of Tanks. Taking to the battlefield alongside iconic vehicles from the war was simply more fun than it had any right to be and I was instantly hooked. The knock-on effect? I began looking in to getting an RC tank...!

I spent a week or two researching different models and literally spent the past week umming and erring as to whether to take the plunge or not but was finally convinced after I found this forum and spent some time looking at the fantastic 'decoration' jobs some of you guys have managed with your vehicles. On Thursday, then, I placed my order for a Heng Long StuG III; the version pre-fitted with metal tracks and a metal gearbox. Having read a nifty little piece about weathering shiny metal tracks I've also ordered a bottle of gun-metal colouring solution to get me started so I eagerly await the chap from Parcelforce!

I'm looking forward to learning more about the world of radio-controlled tanks and already have a stack of questions building up!

Welcome Athelstan, I joined recently and find the help and advice second to none, and I wouldn't mind betting there is a forum member near you.

Hello, welcome to the fun. I'm as new as you and cataloging a series of questions to ask after my Panzer III arrives.
I may regret this later. If anyone has any PC questions feel free to PM me as I am a Geek and Nerd.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, much appreciated (and a sign of a nice forum :D )

I hadn't heard the MIG pigments mentioned yet but I've just now been looking at them; they look great! I can definitely see myself getting engrossed in making the StuG look pretty

I don't know about you, Tane, but every time I start to think "Okay, think I've just about got the gist of it" I then find myself presented with a whole heap of new queries!

Oh well, it's all good fun!
