Matorro Sturmtiger

Post by matthewpeter »

well I finally got my hands on one! I have been hankering after one of these for a while and after a particularly healthy paycheck this month I decided that I might as well get one. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of reviews on these so I thought I'd share my thoughts.

First up the overall look, its pretty good actually. The paint is nicely done, and isn't garish, it looks "right". There does seem to be a little discrepency with mine however, the top half is green/yellow/grey sort of camo, but the chassis bits are painted more a desert sand. I have seen Sturm's painted either colour, and it looks almost like mine has been mixed up paint wise. Its not a problem, it all blends together reasonably well, but it did make me blink a bit at first. Detail is good, though they give you an awful lot of bits to put on yourself (handrails etc). This is a good idea I think, as it means they don't get broken in transit. I shall be replacing mine with metal ones anyway so this isn't a problem.

The chassis is not so impressive. The wheels do not stay in the tracks well, and the motors seem to be seriously down on power. Whereas a more or less standard Heng Long can turn in grass, the Sturm does labour it badly. This will not stand and some replacement gearboxes are in order!

Sadly mine has a damaged gun mechanism so while I can fire BB's (which I never do anyway, it didn't even come with any!) I can't move the gun, this needs repairing.

The sound is actually quite good and refreshingly different in tone to the HL sounds. The gun fire sounds more or less like I'd expect a rocket launcher to sound and the MG sounds particular vicious! I wonder if its the electronics that let the drive down, I have read the Matorro electrics are not well regarded.

I am pleased with it overall, its going to need some work to make it how I'd like it but then thats the fun of it!
