Bloody hackers again
Bloody Sony.

It's one thing hacking onto the network and server but within them they should hold passwords and credit card deatils encrypted - ideally on a seperate server.

You have a layered defence - yes the hacker maybe able to get through the first (alerting the admin that a breach has happened) but they shouldn't hold the crown jewels unprotected behind that first layer of defence.

If they have really lost them, then it is through poor architecture and security - probably because it is cheaper and easier for them.

Cheers,

Nigel

Not a great fan of the banks either but this is going to be a big cost to them with the reissue of credit and debit cards.

This needs to hit Sony finacially. I know it will hit their reputation and possibly lose them custom but there should should be some material fincial loss aswell.

Possibly the Banks and CC companies should advise all customers with PSN accounts to replace their cards, then present Sony with a bill for the total cost.

Cheers,

Nigel

Hi Guys Just had an e-mail from Sony which is 12 days late On the 17th of april the hacker attacked
theis is part of the e-mail
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province, zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

Wont be using my card ever again on the Playstation network, this is a gross breach of trust, they have a duty to protect information that they have allowed to be stolen,by having lax security.
I have canceled the card I used but there must be millions who havnt .

I strongly advice any of you who have given there card details to Sony to cancel the card today.

Not that I like Sony, for the most part their products are crap including the Playstation 3, but remember they were hacked. It is very easy for someone to say lax security but for the most part I doubt if anyone on this thread knows what there security was or what the hacker did to circumvent it. I doubt very much a company the size of Sony, with Sony's history of developing security technologies that it was lax.

Nothing is 100% secure. That includes merchant services, military and manufacturers. On the bright side they have said all credit card data was encrypted but to what level they never said.

They could have handled the PR side of it a bit better than they did, rather than spreading hysteria and panic.
It is never just "one" tank!
