mic,
As long as the engine "off" time is no more than a few minutes at a time AND you keep enough fluid in the smoker, it should be OK.
If it runs very low on fluid and is left on without the fan, the smoker will overheat. PM me and I will e-mail you a simple cicuit modification to get proportional operation.
DanL

Note - the smoker design has just been changed to run proportionally on El Mod. I will e-mail a simple fix for anyone needing it for ElMod proportional operation.

In theory, if you hook this up to the motors then the unit won't generate smoke until the right stick is pushed up. Eg no power to the motors on idle.

I know some people have hooked up an HL smoker to an Elmod so it should be possible to do the same with this unit.

You might try asking Thomas at Elmod for the connection points, or try the Panzerketten forum, as they seem to have an answer to pretty much everything Elmod related.

"...if you hook this up to the motors then the unit won't generate smoke until the right stick is pushed up."

wibbly - that's what I thought too. But ElMod is unique - acts differently than HL or Tamiya electronics. When the regular smoker (designed for HL and Tamiya) is used with ElMod, the fan actually runs at full speed when the motors are at idle. So a circuit change for ElMod install has been made. The SuperSmoker w/ElMod option will now work proportionally with ElMod, ie low smoke flow at idle and increasing as throttle is applied.
Talk to Phil when ordering to ID the right smoker for your application.

Mic, great job on the Elmod smoker install. Good to note the 56ohm resistor...
Thanks for posting the YouTube clip.

The Super Smokers that were available from RC Tankwars are now available from Radio Control Custom Tanks. These are the same smokers that RC Tankwars had from the same source.
For those who fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.
