Which airbrush?

I am on a very tight budget but really want to get on and start to learn to airbrush so that I can weather my Panzer 3, having had it for a year now I think it's about time it looked more realistic, but will being on a tight budget mean that I won't get what I am after?
I have seen for sale on Ebay an kit called the Elephant airbrush kit which says it's OK for modelling but is it really?
I won't be spending hours upon hours using the airbrush as having 4 kids takes up most of my day but to start to learn the basics does anyone know if this airbrush is up to the job or am I being unrealistic?

I spent half again as much for a Paasche Double action gun 120ud and a compressor from Harbor frieght@ 89.00 this seems like a much better deal and judgeing by John's work he should know. Saxondog

The compressor is great. Has everything you need. This one has a tank also which I believe helps keep pressure constant. You can get the same kit for about £70 without the tank. Once pressure is in the tank the pump is not running so nice and quiet for night ops. The brushes supplied are basic and cheap so not a loss if you do some damage while at beginner stage. I have a decent quality brush also but have not used it yet. Plenty of cheap brush attachments on eBay from China. I bought one from China for £2 and it works fine for tank detailing. Recently got an airgun attachment from china for painting the big stuff. Cost £6 including postage.

The compressor set is a good investment and is great to work with. I would stay away from anything involving aerosols. They smell really bad and will cost a fortune in gass.

Yeah, i was thinking of getting one of these at some point. For the price you cant really go wrong. For the limited amount of use it will get high end Paasche kit is just too expensive, good quality, but too rich for my pocket.

Thats a good deal it looks the same as mine,I wanted a compresor and say what looks the same as John f suggestion,I had a single action badger,that was clogged,because I was unable to clean properly with expensive air cans,I was only after comp,same as ebay picture,I thought the airbrush would be junk,but it was a good chinese copy of a badger double action,it takes badger spares no probs.so it was an upgrade from my old one,the comp does'nt have resevior its piston and diaphram,but it works well at the pressures needed for models,go for it the comp is worth the money by its self,a new badger would cost about £75 at least

just looked at pic properly oh yes!its got a tank,mine has'nt so defo go for it,mine cost £70 inc post about 4 yrs ago,the airbrush was a plus,and again it works as well as the badger its copied from,I've owned 2 badgers,china copy not as finely finished,but works find and will keep mine going with badger USA spares needles heads etc

I can see it hasn't got a tank but do you think it would be just as good as the one your suggesting, I really do need to save every pound.

Looks like the same one but without the tank. Go for it. Have fun with it. The cheap chinese airbrushes work fine with the compressor. The needle needs care and to clean you can flush with window cleaner. For painting tanks you will not need a great quality brush and you could damage it while learning. Lots od lessons on utube.

well the comp is the same as mine without tank,its not as good for long jobs as tank,as long as you're using the lower to medium pressure its fine,long periods it can cut out when it gets too warm,so tank is best because as has been said the comp isnt working non stop,on mine the big hex nut adaptor for the air line leaks a little air,not the highest tolerance thread,but a little plumbers compound or screw on with a little adesive,the air brush does'nt look the same as mine,but you get 2,and hopefully as good as my badger copy,you're better off paying a few more quid and get one with tank,and if you need to keep your wife sweet with extra cost learn to airbrush nails ,any airbrush probs plenty of tips from us all
