Super Smokers
Re: Super Smokers
Yes and Yes, these have an integrated circuit, they attach to a power source and the motor leads, fast driving more smoke, slower less with the fan moving slowly at idle to keep the element cool. Phil is the EL-MOD expert but the smoker only needs power and connection to one set of motor leads. But Phil has been working with these and may have some new functions using the smoker so you might want to ask Phil? Saxondog

Hi Guys,
My two smokers arrived from Phil today
My next question is where to hook up the main power to an elmod board? If I just run it to battery via a switch won't I get smoke as soon as I turn on power as opposed to starting engine?????

Re: Super Smokers
Diffidently ask Phil, I don't have EL-MOD and know very little about it. In my tanks the smoker is powered by the same connector as the H/L smoker so as soon as I start up it smokes. Then as soon as I kick the throttle it picks up fan speed. Blake

Re: Super Smokers
Haven't got to the elmod yet but have hooked one up to my PzIII rx18 board and I'm getting very very little smoke? It is plugged into the HL smoke socket I took the top off the smoker and the element is hot and generating a little smoke but when all together nothing comes out? The fan works fine with the motor and I have the 2 red dots (big hole) aligned on the smoker top. Does it take time on the initial fill? I have run it for 10 minutes and no smoke?????

Hi mate,
Yeah, mine took a while to get going the first couple of times, I think it does say that in the instructions. Also check that you haven't got any condensation in the pipes (blow them through)
I had condensation problems at first, but now its fine, I get plenty of smoke. Give it time.
Also make sure you are not over filling.
Mine is connected to my Tamiya Sherman, so can't help with your connection questions.

Sparks answer has it covered, but also check this: during shipping, the absorbent packing inside the smoker can loosen up. Open the smoker and gently push the packing down. Get it a bit down and away from the heating element and make sure that no packing is blocking the outlet of the smoke tubes. Also check the smoke tube position. During install they may have shifted. The tubes should have only 1/8" exposed inside the smoker.

Re: Super Smokers
Thanks all, now have both sorted just took some fiddling. The elmod set up was interesting as the fan speed was to fast at idle and pumped out too much. I asked about the smoker starting only when engine switch on but no one could help me. I found a solution for anyone interested.
Cut the small black wire from the fan and connect it to the neg of the other motor. The fan will not run at all until throttle applied = no smoke with engine on or off until you hit the noise pedal then you get heaps!!!!

Re: Super Smokers
I was under the impression that Phil had worked this out,if the fan does not run the wick may overheat? Or they have resolved this issue and I am behind the times? My smokers are almost a year old and only work with the RX18 and one that is not running for my Battleship Arizona in 1/200 scale.
Let us know how things work out,and post some pics when you get the time. Saxondog

Re: Super Smokers
I emailed Phil but all I got back were the set up instructions, what I want to know is if you can hook up to elmod without smoke when engine is off?
I was not aware of overheat problem with fan off, so I hope this does not occur. I'll keep an eye on it and let you know.
