Detail/Accuracy ?

I have received some great help and advice from members which is a great help thank you to you all ! My Heng Long tiger is well on its way to being a mid/late production ......its costing a arm and a leg and yes when finished it wont be 100% perfect and I could well have bought a Tamiya with all the options,......... as my better half put it "its kept on a shelf in the living-room, and just how many tank experts pass through our door ?" .........so I guess my stress and worries have been for no reason what so ever,

Good fun though. And I like the Heng Long also. I think if I had a Tamiya I would still end up spending even more upgrading to what I want.

God I hate it when people refer to models as 'toys'. At least your hobby has something behind it, an intelligent interest in history and engineering on an affordable and applicable scale, tbh though the HL tanks are a little toyish out of the box lol.

True H/L do look a bit toyish straight out of the box hence the ££££££ leaving my bank account !

Trouble is whatever you get, Tamiya,Heng Long or other - there is alawys somthing to upgrade.

I think if planned upgrades enhance the tank performance then go for it. If on the other hand if they are only added eye candy that will only be appreciated when on your hands and knees think hard about it.

It also relates to what use you plan to have for your tank. If its a carpet runner stalking your lounge then you could be justified in splashing out a bit more to add to its realism. If your baby was bought for the rough and tumble of an outdoor IR club battle then you would need to carefully consider the location and strength of all added goodies - there is nothing more disheartening than scouring the battlefield for precious highly crafted Aber and Schmo bits that have deserted your pride and joy.

End of the day only you can really decide how much to invest in your tank -all hobbies at the higher end will cost !!

I never mind our tanks being described as toys - toys gave me enormous pleasure when I was a kid - if I can recapture just some of that pleasure and fun in todays busy and complicated world - I feel it to be worth every penny spent on it !!

Hi m mates call my tanks my toys but I know they are just on the wind up when they say it back to the question I have spent months on my Tamiya KT and added just about every upgrade you can get and added in the detail that is missing from the kit itself. What I im left with is a tank with a great gearbox and suspension and good looking gun recoil and sound but it has come at a price and im not just talking my pocket here. I have a tank that has fine detail in it that you are scared to touch it because bits of detail will fall off and at the end of the day when you are playing with it and you are 20 feet away you don't see that fine detail that took you months to do.

I have gone for a good detailing,as specific model type, but a runner first and foremost. My Tiger runs and runs very well,my detailing is accurate to the unit and time but the excessive detailing is not their.

But on a good day I can get totally trashed with dirt,some mud and alot of grass and still everything is attached to my hull. Some guy's do create some very well detailed tanks,and hats off to them, but the fun for me is running into every tank trap and situation to stress the drive train and drive it like a tank instead of a classic car.

This is why I have alot of fun, running for me is the best parts. Saxondog

When it comes to accuracy I tend to draw a line in the sand between fine detail verses practicality - take my Tamiya Panther Ausf G as a case in point

I set myself a budget of £250 which was spent ONLY on the really obvious fine detail stuff that Tamiya had either not fitted, such as periscopes and engine grill covers, or stuff that wasn`t right, like the gun barrel and the horrible plastic tracks which didn`t work anyway(Panther now has weathered metal tracks fitted which do work ).

Also, in terms of practicality, I see no point in fitting lots of little fiddly bits that are going to get bush f ked into oblivion the first time you get careless around some poor s ds shrubs

With regards to the "Rivet Counters" of this world, just remember this, you are not there to keep some picky bu er in a dodgy kagool happy, you hobby is there to keep you both happy and sane (well, maybe not totally sane ) in this stressed out, crazy old world that we live in
