I've just started painting, hope to have the base colours done by tomorrow, will post more pics then.
I've no other experience of Tamiya tanks, so I've nothing to compare to, but the wheels seem okay to me. There is some sideways play in the axles.
Need to have a look for track hanger discussions. Could be useful.
Those daft side skirt hangers took ages.

Looks great, Must get one of these somtimes. Impressed with the Tamiya kit. Lots more photos please including electrics and motors.Did you apply the rolled steel effect yourself or is it standard. I notice the road wheels seem to have a metal rim, what are the tracks made from?
There are a few KT Tamiya kits available. Any explanation of differences. Kit 56018 and 84128? Any advice appreciated.

The tracks are metal aftermarket ones. Original tracks are plastic with metal pins.
The metal tracks are considerably heavier than the plastic ones, 585g each.

I have just ordered some upgrade components for the idlers and drive sprockets which will hopefully help carry the extra weight.

I love those tracks they give the tank a different look all together the tank is looking great and the shed door is excellent.

Tracks were a good choice. Cheers for recommending them.
I had installed the recoil unit incorrectly. It now works but has scratched me barrel.
1st impressions it runs well. Certainly more control than in a Heng Long, it turns and crawls much better. Metal tracks clank and clatter along quite reassuringly.
I've ordered a sheet of plasticard to make a ring for under the turret another useful idea from tankmad.
Bit of trial and error getting all the wires to fit in there and still get the upper hull to fit well.
Very pleased so far.
I dont think I'm going to do much more to the paint.
The green turned out well.

Bit more painting, fit the pioneer tools, work out why the turret is being a bit temperemental.
Think I need to file a wee bit more of the lugs on the turret base. (As a result of adding 1mm plasticard to allow the turret to rotate better without scratching the hull.)
Another Tankmad tip.

When you have done that. Rub a soft pencil on the contact areas of the lugs and the ring you have made. This will leave a layer of Graphite which acts as a 'dry lubricant'. If you use the hole left after cutting out the ring as a template & do the same to the deck it fills the microscopic irregularities on the surface of the paint leaving it slippy. It wont make a mess & can only help.
