Tamiya Sherman

Post by Cdochris »

Hi all, I'm after some advice please, which tamiya Sherman kit is best to buy? There are some different modles out there and the one I've seen is one 560014. I believe this is the 2000 one. Or should I go for a newer kit, your thoughts please.

Hi Chris

As long as it says "Full Option Model" it will be fine. "Full Option" means you are getting the full set of computers, speaker, sound & lighting effects etc.

I wouldn`t worry to much about the date, as long as you buy from somewhere like Tankzone or Fusion Hobbies you will be getting the right kit for you

Hope this helps ;)

Hi Chris,
I think you may have put in an extra zero,
The 56014 is the "Full Option Kit"
Hope that helps

105 Howitzer full option Sherman# 56014 Super Sherman full option kit# 56032 I know little about American Tanks but this information is from Tamiya America site, a GOOD SITE FOR INFORMATION, but the pricing is way to high to purchase from them. Here is a link to the site, you can also look at the assembly manuals online which may help you to decide on which Sherman you prefer.

Hi,

You might well find that the only one available is 56014 - the full option kit.

You will also need a Tx, Rx, battery pack and charger. It will run on 2 channel radio but then you can't fire on the move. I would suggest biting the bullet and going for at least 4 channels, or more. No servos are required. I did find that I had problems getting the trims to operate as they should on my 7ch Hitec, but an hours fiddling with the Tx programming sorted it out.

The Sherman is the only one of the 1/16 scale Tam tanks that does not have barrel recoil, but the hull jerks backwards. OK providing the gun is pointing forwards, but it looks a bit silly if its facing backwards or to the side.

Its a good kit - a doddle to build and it runs very well. Loads of upgrades available, but none are really needed for back garden tanking. You can even get a 2 speed gearbox for it.

I've had mine for about 5 years now. Mechanically its bog standard, still on its first set of tracks and though it probably does not put in the hours that some models do, I'm not sympathetic when I do run it and there have been no problems. It performs well on most surfaces, though I do avoid long grass (it coils itself round the back of the sprockets and is difficult to remove) and fine sand (which can find its way into the bearings and is quite abrasive).

The Tam tanks are not cheap, but as with all things you get what you pay for!
