Help re Asiatam spare track links on turret

Post by MarkofZollo »

I think Im being a bit 'special' but im not sure how exactly these spare track link holders attach the the Tiger turret. Does anyone have some reference pics of them on thier tank so I can clarify best way. I found a couple pics but it seems I have an extra shaft shape where the top of the track would meet the top holder. Il try to do some pics if this makes no sense :D Cheers for any help

The top holder is a problem. There is a pin moulded to the top holder but I had to file it down a little then drill holes in the top of the link to accept the pin. problem is links are not securly attached to the turret and come off every time you take the turret apart. One other option is to put screws from the inside of the turret through the turret side and into the back of the track link. The bottom holder fits to the turret base which is why links detach when you take turret apart.

Thanks for the replies, tankmad are yours fitted to top holder in any way? I was just curious as I wondered why Asiatam would produce something you have to alter in order to use it, ie the extra pin Johnf mentioned that has to be removed to fit the tracks. Unless I was getting it wrong lol

As far as I remember there is 2 pins on the top holder one goes into the track the other one goes into the top of the turret after you drill a hole for it.

Thats what I mean to say Stevie, but there is no where for the pin to go in the track unless you drill a hole. I just dont understand products you cant use :S
This is what I have. sure you know anyway but reference for others

You need to drill the top of the track. Top of the track was not very thick so I filled the pin on the track holder so that I could get away with a smaller hole in the track top.

I'm confused here, is it the asiatam ones that are not drilled on the links? I've seen some pics with them drilled. So I take there is an older and a newer version out there?

I studied them from the pictures on the net and couldn't work out how they fitted so i made some from brass plate and brass fret pins. The tops of the track is just squeezed vice like between the brass and the bottom holder has a pin going into the track, photos aren't good but you may be able to make it out

regards Jack.

Tops of my tracks were not drilled. They were just spare links and would not be drilled for driving use anyway. I had to do the same for my Armortek 1/6 Tiger.
