You mentioned 'longer sound clips' in one of your messages. So I gave it a try.

I used 16 files, and sliced up one sound segment, but zoomed in the graph and cut each slice at the point where it crosses the horizontal '0' line. This ensured that even if the Elmod played the files randomly, they would still play seamlessly. I also made them 4-500 ms long.

It seems to have worked. It's a shame that Elmod didn't produce a set of recommendations on how to create a good sound system, it would have saved everyone a lot of time?? :/

Rob, I am not quite sure what you mean. You have a total of 16 files for engine sounds? Can you explain what you mean by cutting them at the o line? And if possible, can you post a video clip? I'd love to hear the sounds.

Ok, this is a screenshot of the Audacity Editor.

1. Load in the sound file that you want to use.
2. Find a section that contains the engine sound that you want to use.
3. Delete the area before and after the segment.
4. This will leave you with a segment that is still probably way more than you need.
5. Use the Zoom icon to magnify the segment.
6. Highlight around 0.4 seconds, but make sure that the start/end is where the graph crosses the centre line.
7. Click on Edit>Split New
8. This will cut the highlighted section and create a seperate file below.
9. To the left of that file click on the small down arrow to open the properties editor and rename it 'fs01'
10. Repeat the process, naming each segment as fs01, fs02 etc, but make sure that the end of each segment is at a point where the graph crosses that horizontal line.
11. Create as many as you want, although more than 10 but less than 40.
12. When you have them all stacked up on the screen you can export them into .wav (8 bit, 22mhz etc).
13. Click on File>Export Multiple.
14. Select a destination to save the files, and select 'Other Uncompressed Files'. This should give you 8 bit sound.
15. Check that the files do not have any tags on them.
16. Job done. Each file starts and ends with the same 'zero' volume, so that even if the Soundblaster plays them out of sequence, they will join seamlessly.
17. The only other three to consider are Cold Start, Warm Start, and Idle.
18. First create a 2 second idle sound using the same method, with start and end on that horizontal line. This must be saved as 'fs00', and the soundblaster will loop this until the right stick is pushed up.
19. Now create the engine start sound, but add the idle sound to the end of it. That way there is a seamless transition from the start sound to the idle sound.
20. Now create the warm start sound using the same method (though I use the same for both).

Lastly, you should run the tank. Check whether there is a delay or overlap between idle and engine sounds between when you are stationary, and when the tank pulls away.
If there is, then open the .ini file, and adjust the parameter that detects the engine voltage, so that the switchover in sound occurs at the correct point. Just change '20' to whatever works.

CFG M 20

I think that just about covers it, but if you any questions then just shout. I will post a video soon, I am waiting for some high intensity led's so that I can install the muzzle flash.

Cheers

Rob, I understadn what you mean in theory, but what I am confused about is how you will get .4 seconds of file that is starting and ending on the horizontal line. If I take a segment and then zoom in on it, once it is expanded enough to make out the graph, I can only et under a ms of time from start/end on the line...I think I am explainiing the question correctly...

If you click and drag the mouse along the graph, the graph will scroll when you get to the far right, so you just keep going until you get to where you want to cut it. You can zoom in and out at any time.

I found that unless I kept the pointer in the top half of the top 'source' graph, then it would highlight the segments below as well, there is a bit of practice needed to stop that happening.

Here is a video, though the PIII isn't quite complete yet.

Understood...for some reason I think I just confused myself...happens soemtimes. Thanks for explaining it though.
More importantly, that PIII sounds great! I think this does make a big difference to the way the sounds merge together. I plan to keep at it as well. I have 2 new projects to begin very soon. If I recall, you did a T-34 sometime ago and it was very good. I am waiting on mine to arrive. Should be any day now.
