Hi Karen,
Yeah, if we buy outside the EU we have to pay duty/tax on the product.
God bless America

I'm not so bothered by the VAT increase on one-off purchases (I mean if you're spending £1000 on a TV, £25 is neither here nor there really), but the price of fuel is a major consideration.

I do about 21k miles per year because of a 90+ mile round trip commute, so my next car purchase will be based almost completely on how close it comes to running on air......

Only one thing is certain in scientific research. Whoever discovers free energy will charge a fortune for it.

On the subject of VAT, the government have ignored a basic concept.

It is % based.

So if Product 'x' costs £100, then the VAT is £20.

If the retailer is losing sales at £120, they will reduce the price of the product.
While they are losing sales, the government gets £0.00 in VAT income.

If the retailer then charges £80 for product 'x', then the government only gets 20% of £80, which is less than £20.

See how it works?

People will buy less, retailers will charge less, sales will drop, the economy will deflate, and we end up in a bigger mess than we are in already.
