Fleshy,s other rebuild a panzer iv

Post by fleshpedler »

This little guy has taken over my life for a number of weeks just lately ,it started out life as one of MickeyB,s tanks, and a right little cracker it was , all the right bits ,3 to 1 gearboxes, metal tracks , and metal front sprockets and metal rear idlers, uprated and of course metal suspension ,
well i am sorry its now in a million bits , as a number of things had too be put right, .
I must first say many thanks to Grompix for his P4 build and that i followed this almost to the letter , but as Chris was building a later version than the F2 that i am,, a number of items were somewhat different ..............
So at last i now have my first pile of Heng Long bits and pieces .......
The usual items with the P4 are now being addressed ie... front sprocket moved up 3mm..
rear return roller lowered by 4.5mm this being held in place with 12ba nuts and bolts ...
the gearboxes tops trimmed, if unhappy then at a later date will replaced by low profile jobbies..
chains added to the front shackles .........
replaced the exhaust pipe with brass pipe and set at the correct angle ,.......
added the turret motor box exhaust pipe .............
made the water outlet pipe cover and added chain.......
the rear tow bracket bottom made with plastic card and brass tube ,also made the hitch from brass rod and added chain.......
some of these items were then weathered straight away ,........
the rear engine deck lowered and cooling vents modded........
the following pics will speak for themselves, but maybe in more than one up load,
more will follow soon...........

Moving along..........

Image
here the mantlet has been modded by removing the bolts across the top cut the sides down added some bead weld and relocated the co-axle machine gun ,added the three bolts and the gun sleeve screws,..............

Image
the front sprocket cover moved up by adding extra hole and thinning the output tube,

Image
this shows the case in the original position

Image
and as in final place.....
Image
here the ground away area so that gears do not touch the front plate.
Image
on this i have removed a small portion of hatch surround so that i could add the second splash guard

Image
also added the front hatch splash guard locating lugs ...........
Image
here i have added extra holes to the front transmission hatch hinges as i shall not be buying the replacement asiatam ones...................
Image
Image
these two show the modded rear end so as i have not lost any height on the back panel........
that,s it for today guys hope it helps some of you.......
more to follow ........

Sorry X mate, the lugs are square plastic bar shaped to a" D" shape and the screws are drawn on with a 01 pen ,does the job though ............one of the easier mods on this little old girl,..

A bit more for you,........

Image
this shows the trimmed mantlet and the removed front turret plate,............

Image
here we see the bb feed has been cut and shortened , also the separated parts of the mantlet,

Image

the back of the mantlet has had the lugs removed and my armoured co-axle pot as well...

Image
in this piccy we see the end result to get the correct shape and size of the mantlet ,also the filled in hole where the bb bulb was ,.........
more to follow when i figured out how i shall make all this work!,.. as they say watch this space...
Fleshy.......................
