I agree with yellowshaker about having to upgrade each tank with elmod. Both my Tiger and Panzer 111 have elmod. I got the Panzer 111 in kit form without any electronics as I knew I would fit the Elmod. I have the brake light working,(made with piece of brass tube and a spare red LED from the mg as I prefer white LED for mg,cost nothing), Also have second mg in mantlet. I could probably get more value from the pro in the Tiger if I knew anything about servos and tank electronics. I have the asiatam recoil and elevation in both tanks. Functions ok in the Tiger but rubbish in the Panzer 111. WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN MORE INFO ON SERVOS.

I am working on a 1/6 scale Armortek Tiger 1 at present and if I could run that with Elmod setup I would. The armortek/Benedini sound system costs about £450 and does not have the degree of flexibility as the Elmod. It really is good. I do not use IR systems but Elmod seems best for this also.

Skip the carpet for now. New carpet will be ruined by your tank anyway.

Hi JohnF,

I've never used any Elmod stuff so I can't comment on it, but I'm surprised at the cost of the Benedini setup for your Armortek Tiger.

Have a look at http://www.benedini.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and you will see he does a mini sound module for (I think) 99 euros and a couple of high power amps.

The mini module is much more versatile than the TBS5, is fully programmable and has more outputs for functions. I've used a couple of these in the past and found them very good. I also use his rotary encoder on a 5th prop channel on my (Hitec) Tx. The module can also be programmed to work on a non-prop 5th channel, but this is not as convenient and I've never explored this option

You can use his sounds - the Tiger was recorded from the Bovington Tiger or find your own. They can be edited with Nero and squirted into the module via his programming lead.

His software is easy to drive, free to download and works well.

You would also need to source speakers, but this is easy enough.

Also available is a switching unit based on his mini module without sounds so unused positions on the encoder can be used to provide yet more functions.

No, I don't get a kickback for recommending his stuff. But I've used him for years and can't complain about his service, backup or helpfulness.

By the way, sound quality is affected more by the way speakers are mounted than anything else. Even rubbish sounds can be vastly improved by good "accoustic engineering"

I have the TBS5 already. Armortek supply it as a plug and play sound sound unit. I got it as a complete full option kit from a customer who bought two so did'nt pay full price. Just started building kit and have not bench tested any of the electronics. I have looked at the benedini site and believe the sound should be good but hope it can perform as well as Elmod.

I have not looked at the TBS5 yet. Do you know if additinal sounds can be programmed on the TBS5? I'M using a Futaba 7c radio and intend to fit the benedini encoder with 12 position rotary knob to operate the sounds.

Hi John,

If you want info on fitting the rotary encoder to the Futaba 7c, the best thing to do would be to put a post on the UKTC site. Benedini modules and encoders are very widely used within the UKTC and there is one guy there (Humpy) who is particularly knowledgable. I once had a bad experience with Futaba radios so I never use them.

Same goes for the TBS5. I'm not sure if it is possible for the user to add additional sounds directly but I know that Thomas can do it if the unit is returned to him. I've never used the TBS5, only the earlier version TBS3, which is excellent. I only have experience with the mini and the micro, both of which can cope with additional sounds added by the user though I can't really recommend the micro unless your soldering skills are very good.

Rivetcounter has put some vids of his Tiger on uTube and the sound of it is superb. You should be able to find the link on the UKTC site. It is very difficult to give a comparison with Elmod because really you would need to be able to listen to the two of them side by side with the same speaker and amp installation.

As far as I know, the Benedini Tiger sound is the only one that has actually been recorded from a Tiger rather than a KT, and they do sound different due to the differences in the exhaust and intake system.

Sorry I can't be more helpful with your choice of gear. I don't want to mislead you by giving info that is possibly incorrect.

Thanks for the info Peter. It will be a long time before the Tiger is in a running state. Plenty of time for research. I will certainly check out the forum.

Thanks,
John
