painting zimmerit

Hi all I have a question for you all. The zim that is sold by some of the vendors on here and evil bay. Can it be painted as it only appears to come in green and my "you aint getting it until christmas" Tiger is a snow white wash?

Would you consider applying zimmerit in miliput. I had a go on a 1:35 late tiger recently to see what it would turn out like and try a paint scheme. Happy with the result and no bother to do. I will try to get a photo later. If you are converting to late tiger with zimmerit it is worth looking at the tiger builds on the armortek site as well as this site. The good thing about miliput is that it's not only cheaper but also very easy to create battle damaged areas. You must have your wife driven mad about that tiger. I will get another tiger at some stage. Probably the full late model upgrade from rctank.de. Dominique has already confirmed that those stick on zimmerit sections are removable. I will then apply Millport. Are you going full late model or early to mid version with zimmerit.
Ps I'm positive that the zimmerit above is paintable. If painting the body make sure you wash parts first to get a good base and apply an undercoat. Have a look at some of the builds on the forum. Lots of time to research before christmas. There are some good books on amazon by osprey worth looking at. I might have some stuff in PDF.

I have just been fitting with these pre-fabricated Zimmerit sheets to my son's Heng Long Tiger but I have yet to paint them. They are made from some sort of rubberized compound and I have no reason to think they won't take paint as well as the rest of the tank. Overall I would recommend them to anyone who is a little daunted by applying zimmerit using putty - although I had my first go in over 25 years last night (using Millipiut) to fill in gaps (e.g. where I had removed some of the side mudguards) and, with a little effort, it worked pretty well. There are other advantages as well: because of the way the Heng Long Tiger is constructed, in order to take it apart for maintenance, there are some tell-tale gaps - e.g. along the bottom of the front turret sides - which these sheets cover nicely whilst still allowing everything to separate. A word of warning about the glue however - if you're not careful it can start to melt the plastic beneath!

I did a test on zimmerit application on a 1/35 Tamiya Tiger. No problem with milliput or greenstuff. Very pleased with finish. No painting problems. Worth a go. You will feel better knowing it was done properly. Just need to make an application tool. I think for 1/16 Tiger it should be about 7mm. One of the experts will know the exact size of pattern no doubt.

Hi all Thanks very much for the info and when I change the paint scheme and put the metal hull on, not that I bought one yet.
(It aint broke so dont mess with it) , I will have a go with the Milliput, I have seen it on Fleabay and it seems to be better value than the sheets and as you all say, better done yourself. I have discovered the Tamiya weathering sets, they are great to use and I am chuffed with the results but I guess you could over do it.
