1/16 Elefant Ludwig/Asiatam
Re: 1/16 Elefant Ludwig/Asiatam
I probably could get away with the Porsche barrel with only minor trimming. Elefant barrel is 71 cal. either one will provide the correct length, I only had the KT barrel available...so therefore all the trimming. Hard part is getting the gentle taper correct on the barrel.
Re: 1/16 Elefant Ludwig/Asiatam
I certainly understand that, like you I wish I had a better equipped shop, hopefully a solution to barrel issues may soon be resolved. I will keep you update XRAD as I know you are certainly going to be building more unique armor.
On another subject the hardware link by Christian seems to offer alot of really good stuff, hinges, chains, Allan shoulder bolts which I have been buying from Du-bro. But wanted to know if you have ordered from them? Sax

Nope, just standard allen head screws and my design.
Re: 1/16 Elefant Ludwig/Asiatam
Finally, some time to work on the Elefant. Tracks were too loose with stock setting, and removing one link was way too tight, so I needed an adjuster mechanism. Of course, it could not be a simple system, but one that had to take some slack as well as take some compression.
So with about 4 hours engineering and fabricating I came up with this system. Uses two 10 lb springs (which you canot compress with your hands), some brass sheet, 2x1/4 brass screws (trimmed) and some lock nuts. The screw adjusters are at an angle so easy to adjust with big screw driver and wrench. then the whole block the adjuster screws mount to also moves back under compression. Had to lengthen hull holes 3.5mm forwards. Also built brass carrier for front axle with set screws. had to trimm axle so that stubs only project from hull 10mm on each side.
takes some force to compress the system, but it does work well. this will definately absorb some of the forces and ease some stress on the gearboxes.
One thing to improve the gearboxes is bigger higher torque motors mounted at right angles to the originals, but I can;t find nice bevel gears to work.
cheers

I though you said you had few tools? Damn skippy for a screw driver and some pliers.
Re: 1/16 Elefant Ludwig/Asiatam
Sax..it's just pretty cause it's made of brass...but all the edges are rough cut with hacksaw and hammered in a a shop vise, and dremmeled smooth.
I do have a MAPP gas tank with mini torch so brazing/soldering is easy....

Thanks Guys!
Chris, I see the nice track guides you have...but after reviewing about 100 photos, I can see that the track only really touches the middle wheel group when set for normal tension. After a hull fire or tensioned from drive wheels, track is in other positions(too high, too low). when complete, hull weight will loosen stock track too much, so therefore the tensioner.
This model is my attempt at best job so I try to make all corrections.

ah, now i understand your problem.
you use the system to get the track in perfeckt position.
