hyrbid Tiger turret rotation mod

Hi All,

looking for some ideas/advice from those of you who are no doubt much cleverer than I. Heres what I am trying to do, I have built and converted a stock Tamiya Tiger 1 into the Late version and after much deliberation I decided to use it on the Hatchette build your own tiger upper hull, the turret ring hole in the upper hull had to be made considerably larger to accomodate the larger Tamiya turret ring. This was achieved with my dremel and the turret now sits in the hole. I then began thinking of a way to improve on the Tamiya rotation. Would it be possible to use some sort of large bearing sitting in the aperture? if so what type of bearing would i need? how would i modify the original tamiya turret to sit in this bearing, presumabely i would need something to mate up with it and allow it to spin freely.
I wonder if im trying to be too clever here? open to any suggestions. Because it will be full RC i am hoping to use the Asiatam hub so the basis is Tamiya turret, Hatchette upper hull, asiatam tub plus either henglong or tamiya electronics, assuming the tamiya turret can be wired into the henglong system this would prove far cheaper than buying the Tam DMD units.

Their may be a better way, the ring gear modification which allows the turret to rotate 360 and be removed simply by lifing it off the lower hull has been around for a while. Look at the pictures below.

This modification was shown to me by Bubbajoexx, I purchased three tanks from him last year ans each had a version of this turret ring modification. The RING GEAR is from a Panzer IV the rotation gearbox is a small gearbox kit from Tamiya part#93 3-Speed Crank Axle Gearbox.

If you need some more information please ask,this mod is great for several reasons,Turret removal is very simple, complete 360deg. rotation.More compact hull and turret layout.
