To BB or not to BB?

Post by Doughzer »

I see from posts and what is available out there I have a choice for going down the BB route, or IR models.

could someone if possible explain the pro's and con's of each option, is it Ir is better for multiple battles and BB too dangerous?

Also, can someone explain why there are so few allied WW2 tanks out there, as I would hardly call x20 Pershing tanks at the end of WW2 justification for a model, where as there doesn't seem to be a big choice of Sherman suppliers, and no British tanks?

And where is a good T34/85 too? Arguably the best allround tank of the war?

Iam talking the affordable HL route of course!

Does this mean the Tamiya IR system drops straight in on most tanks? Or do some models need a bit of nip and tuck to be done?

Hi Doug, it all depends on your preferences. Im the type who likes a tank to fire things, and either way I would have to modify for a club battle so I got a BB Tiger. They are not too powerfull, about as good as one of those £5 guns you can pick up in markets, but I still find it fun (want to get some exploding pellets!!).
For British tanks I am in same boat, I need at least one in my collection so may buy and build chris3's Cromwell kit (http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/v ... =23&t=5067" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). For Shermans if you find ebay parts sellers you can pretty much make any Sherman model you want, I plan to use a Mato Sherm but replace the turret with Tamiya's and fashion a cannon and mantle to create the M4A1 soon.
And T34/85 wise, made by WSN, I have one and it takes a fair beating. Try to get the one in the box with no clear windows 'cos that one has working hatches!
Anywho hope this helps in some way (btw all model stuff I do is as cheap as possible so let me know if you need some hints ;) ), Dave
There is always a fifth Sherman

To go down the IR route, you need to spend some cash.

There are several conversion options.

1. Tamiya units.
2. Elmod boards.
3. Darkith boards.
4. Various others including RC Command, Impact etc.

What you go for is down to your budget, I have two Elmod equipped HL tanks, but would highly recommend the Darkith boards as they are relatively cheap, have Tamiya compatible IR, and improve the tank dynamics. I have had Darkith kit in two HL tanks and was impressed with them, as you can keep the HL tx, and the RX18.

There are plenty of threads on the virtues and installation of all of these systems, and they are all well worth reading.

Cheers
