Hi, I've been looking for a reduction metal gearbox for HL pIV that doesn't need extensive mod to fit. Tried rctank and asiatam sites, and forgebear but no joy there. Has anybody here done it, and where did you get it from please, or is one due out soon from anybody? Really fancy a pIV f2, but no good to me if I can't get a decent gearbox, will get something else instead to mod. Has been driving me mad, just want to know
thanks
nick

Re: 3:1 reduction gearbox for HL P IV?
Hi Nick,
I put a set of Asiatam's low-profile gearboxes in my HL PZ4 without any probs:-

Here is the full build thread:-

Might help.
Cheers

Hi, thanks for the reply, how does the body fit on securely now you've cut the front mounting points out? Are those the asiatam low profile piii gearbox's I take it?

Re: 3:1 reduction gearbox for HL P IV?
Hi
The body can be successfully put back on with the original screws if you want - even without the two screw posts at the front.
With mine, I drilled out the screw posts and glued in some silver-steel rod in the original screw positions on the PZIV hull top (2-3mm dia steel nails with the heads removed also work). I now just drop the hull top on an it's held in place with the nails fitting into the original drilled out screw holes. Of course I also cut away the battery compartment and glue in a piece of plasticard to cover the hole. Then I just rest the battery on the hull floor. This means I can get at all the electrics and mechanics without having to turn the tank upside down (which can damage the external detailing IMO).
But you might not want to do all that.
Yes I used the Asiatam low-profile gearboxes. Not sure if they were the PIII ones or whether they are universal to all HL tanks. I remember they did not fit that well and I ended up building up the floor of the chassis with several layers of glued plasticard and bolting the gearboxes in place for strength. Wasn't too difficult to do though.
Glad to be of help.
Cheers

Re: 3:1 reduction gearbox for HL P IV?
Doesn't Mato make some 3:1 metal gearboxes that are a direct fit?
Re: 3:1 reduction gearbox for HL P IV?
Hi, not to my knowledge, it requires that mod above the same one as for the asiatam.Doesn't Mato make some 3:1 metal gearboxes that are a direct fit?

Hi Nick, :~
I am not sure how good you are at drilling out holes in the metal gearboxes, but if you look at my thread you can modify an existing gearbox down to a 3-1 by adding an extra first gear . If you just click on the link it will take you to my thread and will show you how easy it is to do !

hi thanks, it's not the same gearbox, one has the motor in a central position, so not sure it will work
