First HL tank purchase

Post by twelvebears »

Evening All!

As per my introduction post, I'm keen to dive into things and would like your guidance about my first HL purchase.

My preferences are for the Tiger 1, Panther or Bulldog, but really I want to know what these are like in terms of accuracy as a starting point and what is available by way of upgrades.

Ideally I'd like to end up with something with all metal tracks, running gear/suspension and bullet-proof gearboxes.

I've also considered going the whole HL hog (though still cheap by Tamiya standards) with one of these from rctank.de

http://www.rctank.de/product_info.php?c ... ts_id=1177" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That said, I love the looks of the Walker Bulldog, which for some reason just looks like a tank should....

Thoughts and advice much appreciated

All the best

Well That is a fine Tiger, not sure if they have improved the Asiatam lower hull (METAL REINFORCED SUSPENSION MOUNTING POINTS) but I would like to see their method, This Tiger has alot of stuff, and the Zimmerite coating, paintwork, and so much more but then Half the fun is building it? Then for the same money you could have two tanks with metal h gearboxes and slightly larger Battery.

Ask Dave about the cost of two tanks with upgrading.A Tiger and a Bulldog possibly? Or buy that fine Tiger, but which option is more fun?

It all depends on what you intend to do with it? Driving through dirt and mud or a carpet runner or something in between?

Best of luck, check out our vendors section to see who rates positive before buying, cheers Blake

Thanks Blake.

You make a very good point though. I'm a frustrated engineer at heart so I'm sure you're right, the fun is in the development, not just 'skipping to the end'......

I think I will defo grab Bulldog just because I love the way it looks and to have as a 'daily driver' with probably a Tiger (as it seems there are more options available) as a long term project.

Cheers

Welshdragon also has quite a decent heng long Tiger on their site which works out a lot cheaper than buying all the upgrades seperately?

The rctank.de Tiger has every upgrade, including IR battle system.
I know when I bought one there was a large saving over gradual upgrades. I still stripped it down repainted and rebuilt. Asia tam also do a tiger kit with all the upgrades but in parts form. (NO HENG LONG RADIO THOUGH)
