I am in a similar situation in that the air temp.here is below -0 C or 18 degs.F. So I cannot paint just now and that is what I need to be doing to start either of these kits. I am wanting to primer all the body panels, Then a nice Schwarzengrua 39-43 Gray base color. These two or one as things turn out will be a Grossdeutschland staff command car,and maybe a Command Radio Kubelwagen?

I do know that they will be Eastern front early 1943 prior ro Kursk,so Feb.or March. Grossdeutschland unit markers in white and the proper vehicle marker for their type.

As far as lucky,I am humbled by this gift, and lucky might be a good description.I sure feel something,I have been lucky,my Porsche King Tiger came to me in a very similar situation. Then these two kits, but like the Porsche KT I never thought I would be able to afford or obtain either of these vehicles.

My Kids are going to Graduate in May,then to Southwest University in Sept so my Hobby budget has been diverted to cover the kids out of pocket cost that is not covered by their grants. And really since May or June last when I purchased my Jagdpanther was my last large purchase. We have been diverting more and more slim resources to their future.

So Abo I agree that I like you am luckier than many people, I believe that their is always some one less fortunate than me.And to be blessed with these fine friends and comrades is something to be truly thankful for.

Funny thing is when I was 10 my father drove a bright red Beetle that always seemed to small for him(6'3) but was a great car.And I recall thinking how much it looked like a red slay. Merry Christmas Every one,and especially my benefactor in the pacific.

In the book Panzer Grenadier Division Grossdeutschland Squadron Signal Publications page 46 their is a photo of 25 or more Kuebelwagens in several versions. Excellent photo which also shows the large amount of equipment committed in the first year of the Eastern Front Conflict.

This is one of the best books for Grossdeutschland units identification of vehicle types. Each year and at times months are depicted by the organization CHART and the equipment in each, regiment, battalion, company and platoon. This is how I have started the research on my tanks. Using the organizational charts I could back track the vehicles, tanks or other types to the production information and the unit allotments.

That would give me information on the version of each type of tank, Halftrack,Kubel,VW or any vehicle. My Tiger,Jagdpanther, and even both my KT'S have been researched and modeled after Tanks and paint schemes known to be used by Grossdeutschland. The picture of the Kublai and VW Beetles in the book have given me exact vehicles to copy with these two kits.

I need a break as well, the research on my King Tigers has hit a brick wall and I need to divert my attention to something else for a while. The VW/Kubel kits are a good place to put my efforts. cheers Saxondog

Sax, sorry to highjack the thread for a second, you mentioned a Porsche KT, is it R/c or the Trumpeter version with full interior? I have had the latter bought me for Christmas and it looks like one hell of a project to build, looking forward to spending a LOT of time on it.

That's an interesting link Saxondog, I never knew or paid attention that "Jerry Cans" were a German invention, so obvious now though.
