Wars Cold Embrace

Post by Saxondog »

I remember when the bright morning would chase away the grey of night,the fresh morning was greeting me and happy I was welcoming the warm day,as it chased away the cold night I had spent in this simple world of home.

The mornings were so full of hope,happiness and bright thoughts of the future,the good earth,the warmth of love. All is changed,the warmth is cold earth, the Earth is cold as the morning is dim. No future but this moment,this moment of wars callus,uncaring.reality. And the silence of the dead, HERO's all, and all forgotten in the waste of politicians words.

The politicians words,so boastful,so proud and encouraging.So full of knowledge,smart words all. And to return now to hear the same politicians words of regret, They are to same words every time young lives are wasted, and the same comfort,security and warm days these politicians enjoy at the expense of the hope of the soldier,who lives and dies to pay the ultimate price for our liberty,a liberty enjoyed by politicians of all wars, all era's,all waste throughout the long years. Why don't they embrace the cold earth with me? Why are they always through the eternal cold embraces of war the ones that know the best solutions to the problems that created these wars of the young,always the young.

They give their lives for the country of their birth,and it is not wasted for that cause, not wasted for the loved one living in security and peace to embrace another days freedom. But why the politicians,why do they embrace freedom, a freedom they have never purchased, a life they have never given for their freedom.The cries are never theirs, only the cries of those who paid for the freedom that they the politicians never hear. They speak of this reason, that cause, this solution. But throughout the grey mornings chased away by the bright of day they live in a freedom they have not earned, freedom's price they have not paid, why.........

I was awakened by the cold embracenof reality, the reality of a morning without hope, warmth or love. Only greeted by another day in this hell called war where the politicians never are,only the soldier's pay freedom's price.

When will the cold grey hopeless day,be paid for with the politicians blood, lost lives and loves? Why only the young....... ,why only the poor young lives wasted by the politicians words, words protected by a freedom they have lived and never purchased? When will the Young be allowed to enjoy Freedom? When the gallows pole is choking the words of the Politician? Only then will we free ourselves of the waste, destruction, and sorrow of the Politicians and embrace a Freedom of the People by the People for the People. Saxondog

I have written this for no other reason than the truth of the words, I'm not a poet, just woke up in the early morning on TV was a documentary about the Viet-Nam war and the political lies so often spoken in those days. Two older brothers were their and the date has other meaning that I chose to remove. Just tell me what you guy's think about the reality of WAR that never changes.

Good words Blake. As the saying goes. Once we were led by warrior kings. Now our warrior's are ordered into battle by politician's in comfortable room's,far removed from the slaughter & bravery that they would vaingloriously claim as their own.

Politicians are great at telling us lies and getting us into conflicts, but they nor their families
are any where near where they can get hurt or killed.

Echoes the sentiments of one of my favourite poems

"I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!"

Well war has been, and always will be fought for financial, material or power gains. Religion is an often used excuse.

It doesn't really matter what time period you look at.
It is never just "one" tank!

War's cold embrace is eternal through the ages, the coin always Blood, the banker always a Politician....and the debt is forever paid by those who would rather be somewhere else, doing some simple thing,Loving Laughing,crying,living, but this is the reason their is no common sense in Politics, no truth, no honour,nothing fine and true can be found in the reasons given,the truth hidden in war's cold embrace.
