Scale aircraft

Post by Saxondog »

I've looked at several electric fly German, British and Russian aircraft to try and find the right size for 1/16 scale. Well I have found all and move in rubber band/ glider kits from GUILLOWS. These are laser cut balsa, a better grade than their older kits but still build the same way, glued together framing, and modern duel coat covering.

Why can't this be easy? I really want a Stuka JU-87 Tank buster. In the correct scale, so why can the new electrifly model come with a stated scale? Instead a 50 year old company does. I have tried he math of scaling down from the actual aircraft but the scales seem closer to 1/12. Which I guess would be ok.

The Taylor Field club guys are building an airfield on the very nice battlefield so they got me interested in flying again. Anyone know of a JU87 STUKA ARF OR RTF MODEL? Or even a ME109 or FW190?

Here is a link to the 1/16 scale kits and the correct size of these WWII AIRCRAFT IN 1/16. Now the search begins for a flying model.

I'm sure those are nice kits but what about these foamies from Hobby Lobby? They have a lot of schemes all done with fair detail, all are very close to 1/16th, and you can fly them as a bonus. All about $100 each. I think I need at least 5 or 6 of these.

Dumas Fieseler Storch is pretty close to 1/16th scale.

I have one of these which will get built one day, The good thing about these
aircraft is they would often be seen with tanks as they could land and take
off short (STOL, Short Take Off and Landing) By my calculations the Dumas
model is pretty close to 1/16th scale. She has a lot of dihedral (angle) in
the wings, to help her fly better as a free flight plane.

I am thinking of building mine as a static with more scale like wings
(straight) and here is a bonus Tamiya's Luftwaffe pilot would make a good
figure to be standing alongside.

Fiesler Storch a beautifully ugly aeroplane!

Guy's I posted the link because the size information is 1/16 scale and most of the main aircraft are represented. These Guillows kits are old school for sure and the new Foam kits are well made with wooden framing internally. But the aircraft on the battlefield idea would be pretty cool, has anyone ever tried an I/R aircraft attacking Tanks?

Forgot, Hobby Lobby International is here in Tennessee, Nashville to be exact which is a 200 mile drive I intend to make very soon. They have these killer side walk sales and the prices are really low but you have to be their in person as they do not offer these prices on line.

Something else about H L is the Gruapner speed 400 motors are 7.99us each. These are the motors in my Tiger and their great.

Planes on the battle field would be very cool.

Our club Lubbock Oddball Tankers Society has discused possible RC aircraft and gunemplacement interaction using IR and ricky has even purchased some IR LED Tx/Rx sets and done a bit of experimenting but we haven't exactly come up with a plan yet. We were also hoping to formulate some scenarios that could be played out and discused using IR sensors on objectives such as control towers and radar towers at airfeilds that you would need to capture, or head quarters/maproom type objectives that once shot would set off smoke generators and/or lights to signal the capture. FOr something to keep the combat more interesting than just driving around shotting eachother. I wisk I could be there for one of those sidewalk sales. 8O

That's a nice model Panzerman, what's the WS on it. It might even make a nice micro RC conversion and would certainly be unusual. I saw a L4 Birddog at the LHS not so long ago but passed it up it was very close to 1/16th and would make a nice edition. I thought it was a Great Planes model. If I find it I'll post a link. It had some pretty scale lines and detail.

I had noticed the Kyosho ME109 works out at a scale of approx 1/15. There is a short video clip on this webpage showing performance which is extremely impressive!

or a UK seller here

Guess I'd better get saving ;)

Guy's we have talked about using the smoker in I/R Tanks as a kill effect smoker. When the RX18 registers max hits the tank goes into re-set mode. This same reaction could turn the smoke unit on full fan speed bellowing smoke out of any open part like back deck grills, hatches, even the gap under the turret.

Phil at Rctankwars may be working this out as he is the expert, but a tank bellowing smoke from hatches is much easier to see and if a better effect than some flashing lights.

Also me and Dietrich have been working on the paintball gun system, it will be a state side system as in the UK the laws are to restrictive. But were working on a low pressure system, safer and more shots. After 30-50 feet getting a hit is unlikely so these High Velocity guns @400+fps are overkill, 100 fps will travel 50 ft in half a second and bust a paintball very well.

I have considered discussing this system with your group as a excellent place to test the system in real combat. I will certainly keep you guy's updated to our progress. We had a target date for release of Dec.1st. But the barrels have been delayed and we are looking for another source. Then each barrel must be machined. Hopefully the barrel order will arrive tomorrow if not I must find another source. cheers Saxondog

I calculated the Kyosho ME109 at 16.17 going by Wiki measurments but I thought even the Alfa models which are around 12th scale or so wouldn't look so out of place on a battle feild and I love flying RC as well. I'd love most of these planes in my hanger especially the Focke Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein or the Bristol Beaufighter B|
