Bulldog (or any) barrel tilt question

Post by Jono77 »

I've nigh on finished my RC conversion on this tank.
Using my Futaba radio gear, receiver, conventional fwd/rvs speed controllers.
Recut the gears and now the turret spins like a top becuase I am using a slip ring connector of a phone line (wee bit slow but nothing I can do really - is 20 secs complete rotation realisticly too slow ?)

Last issue is the barrel tilt - the HL mechanism just loops and whilst I would normally put a servo controller onto the motor I dont want to be pushing up for down and vice versa when the thing gets it's knickers in a twist.

Is there any mods for this or do people just fill in the gears to make it stop once it has reached full up / down - just be nice to have a controllable barrel and not something wagging up and down until I get it to the right elevation.

Doubt I'll have the gun wired in to fire - very easy to do but I'm not fussed with it - rather have some smoke and lights :D

Any clues on how to do this ?

This small gearbox is sold as a kit,the gearing speed has several options. I learned about this mod from another member and use it for rotation and elevation in my Tamiya King Tigers. This might work for you as well,or the Tamiya elevation units are available from AAF Museum. Here are the links.
